1-tank trip : Columbus

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take a Saturday, 1-tank trip to Columbus. The skies were bright blue and while 71S was swarming with police cars we managed to make it there in just over two hours with no stops.

We arrived to a quiet Columbus starting our morning with breakfast at North Star Cafe on High Street. Not only was the breakfast yummy, the unlimited magazines and people watching was even better. After breakfast we headed to the new Rothko exhibit at the Columbus Museum of Art. It was awesome, a three room intensive on the life of the artist and how his works once more figurative morphed into intense color studies. Also along with the Rothko exhibit there is this fascinating exhibit of Czech puppets on display in the other galleries, almost as cool as Rothko, but also sorta creepy. You have to check it out!

From the museum we headed back to the Short North for some boutique shopping at On Paper, Tiger Tree and Rowe, plus a quick stop into Jeni’s for a mid-morning sugar rush.

By now the students of OSU were starting to crawl out into the days sunlight and it was time to head over to Easton Town Center for even more browsing. Due to the amazing spring-like weather I think others had the idea to hit the outside mall but we managed to find parking and were off to shop.

We first stopped into the Celebrate Local (Ohio) store to find lots of great t-shirts and food goodies all made in our midwest state.

Then as we were looking for another store we came across the new storefront of the soon-to-be C. Wonder (Tory Burch’s ex-husbands new venture) which is sorta awesome.

We made it to the colorful happy-land of Kate Spade at her newest boutique. Filled with color, shine and everyone drinking the neon raspberry koolaid the team at Kate Spade were over the top friendly and helpful to say the least.

From Kate Spade I tried my best to spend my West Elm holiday gift certificates, then picked up some great spring “jewels” at Forever 21, lunch at Bon Vie and best of all browsed J. Crew’s newest spring and resort line (best J. Crew in Ohio!)

All that and back in time for 6:30 dinner in the CLE! It was an awesome one-tank trip with a very fun friend. If you’ve got a free day, a hankering for some serious shopping or want to be inspired at a great art museum; but want to feel like you took a vacation…time to explore our sister city; second coolest to us of course…Columbus.

(Thanks to @smmartis for the fun picture of me near the CCAD “Art” sculpture…did I really need the full on down parka in the almost 60 degree weather?)
