Good afternoon CLE. How is your Wednesday going? All good here. I’m still thinking about last nights Hunger Games flick that we saw at Capitol all while enjoying my first tall skinny gingerbread latte of the season. Delicious…the movie & the coffee!
Today kicks off my annual holiday “12 days of giveaways” excitment. I have done this for a few years showcasing both local artists and national brands giving away fun treats to my awesome readers during this festive season. So let’s get started…Day 1, shall we?
The first giveaway is an awesome prize, Chipotle catering for you and 19 of your best guac and chips loving friends. (valued close to $300)
Chipotle approached me about hosting a little gathering for some of my friends to try out how easy they make their in home catering. It literally was as simple as making a phone call and swinging into their parking lot for pick up to get the whole Browns watch party started. (Yes, we are still watching the Browns at our house, Go Brownies!)
We set up the spread and everyone went to town. besides the multiple TUBS of guac, it was just nice to be able to try out a few different combo’s that you might not order regularly. I discovered I actually liked their barbacoa and will for sure try it again. Good thing they gave us extra bowls, our friends were all welcomed to leftovers for their Monday lunches. The spread was really fresh, the catering set up they provided with the food kept everything warm, it was a nice relaxing way to enjoy a group of friends that I would say we for sure would order again.
Would you like to treat your friends to a Chipotle feast this holiday season? Just tweet me “@iheartclev I’d love to host a @ChipotleTweets party at my house this holiday season!” The winner will be drawn by random end of day Thursday, December 12th. Good luck!
Happy Wednesday everyone. Looking forward to celebrating the holiday season with YOU! Check back often for the next 11 days of giveaway fun!
*This post is brought to you in collaboration with Chipotle. I received one catering certificate for myself and one to giveaway to a reader. All content, ideas, and words are my own. Thanks for supporting this sponsor that allow me to create special content like this for iheartcleveland!
Hey holiday movie lovers? What are your favorite go-to holiday flicks? Are you an Elf lover, do you swoon for The Holiday or Love Actually? Perhaps you like the silly classics of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation? Or remember when watching Charlie Brown’s Christmas and Rudolph was a tv “special?”
Me? I like them all, over and over. I LOVE Bing Crosby’s White Christmas and could sing every song from the show. I also love A Christmas Story and and am so pleased that we have the actual house where the movie was filmed right here in town. Have you been?
I toured the actual Christmas Story House one time when it first opened to the public. It was filled with little relics of the set including the vintage stove, the boys bedroom suite and other key pieces of furniture. It truly was like stepping onto a movie set. If you haven’t been it’s a great excuse to get bundled up and explore the holiday movie home. Don’t forget to cross the street to see the museum where many more props and retro remnants live. You can also pick up your leg lamp there as well…gotta get one of those!
If you’ve ever dreamed of staying overnight in the Christmas Story house and are looking for a bit of holiday adventure a two-night stay is currently being auctioned off on ebay. The money raised will support the upkeep of the actual property as well as the surrounding neighborhood. Currently the stay for 4 people is going for over 3K but split four ways, it could be something dreams are made of. Bid now!
Not into staying over with Ralphie and his Red Ryder BB gun bt still love the story? Get your tickets to the Cleveland Playhouse production of A Christmas Story, showing now through December 22nd. Tickets are available online and the show is at the newly remodeled Allen Theatre, go check it out!
So remember to bundle up and go celebrate some Christmas movie lore right in our own backyard. Merry Christmas Cleveland, don’t shoot your eye out!
Hello & happy December everyone!
How was your Thanksgiving? Did you enjoy a good meal with family and friends? Perhaps a bit of black friday shopping? Get a jump start on your Christmas holiday decorating? Whatever you got yourselves into, I hope you truly enjoyed the spirit of the season.
Last week was sort of quiet here at “iheart” due to hosting our family Thanksgiving celebration. There were five grocery shopping trips made to accrue all the ingredient lists (West Side Market, Heinen’s(2), Giant Eagle & Target.) There were hours of prep including baking the cornbread (for stuffing), chopping the asian pears (for the cranberry sauce) and slicing the brussle sprouts for the slaw. This year I switched up many of our traditional recipes adding a touch of spice to the cranberry sauce (add jalepeno) and the pumpkin pie (add chili powder.) There was a lot of baking, roasting and basting of our bird (with the most awesome injection needle.) All in all the meal turned out scrumptious…with the exception of a non-descript coconut cream pie…you win some, you loose some.
Once the feast was all out away the rest of the weekend was filled with some holiday shopping – got a few gifts crossed off my list. I took my family to Vosh in Lakewood for a bit of live music after a long day of shopping. We went on a few long walks to try and walk off all the mashed potatoes. We took a drive east to Sugar Pine Farms* to pick out our holiday spruce. We enjoyed a pre-show dinner at Cibréo before the opening night of the 25th Anniversary of Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. It was a go-go-go, entertaining long weekend and now I reflect on being thankful.
After all the pumpkin spice has been put away to be replaced with fir and peppermint scents I am reminded of how thankful I am to you, my readers, friends and family. For if not for you I may not have the excitement, passion and get-up-and-go with this very special social place. This blog has allowed me to connect to many other creatives and Cleveland cheerleaders. It has opened doors for me throughout the city to explore and engaged further in my community. I have developed some wonderful friendships and acquaintances through this daily collections of thoughts. Thank YOU for coming back to my little place on the web. Cheers to many more posts together as we finish out this 2013 and look ahead to the new year! Happy Thanksgiving….now let’s get ring in the “merry & happy” Christmas season in upon us.
* We loved how charming Sugar Pines Farms was, but be warned…we went there Saturday at around 11am and all of the cut-your-own trees were GONE. So if you are headed there to cut, you need to choose another tree farm. We did however buy a great tree from their barn as well as enjoy some make-your-own smores and a hayride around the grounds.
Happy Friday everybody! Another great one in the CLE. The holidays are upon us with next weeks Thanksgiving and soon to follow the rest of the happy holidays. Holiday excitement kicks off this weekend with a visit to the Westside Market for turkey day staples, the Holiday Cleveland Flea for a bit of pre-shopping, the tree lighting at Crocker Park and of course the Browns/Steelers game; Go Browns!
I know I may have posted this picture somewhere in the social space before, but I just LOVE it! You gotta love Ms. Mae West…she was one tough and quotable cookie! What a great quote for living life to it’s fullest.
Just a few details on some of the weekend highlights and a couple of other cool happenings in town.

Good morning everyone. Hope you week has been going great. Last night I had the privilege of volunteering with many of my fellow Junior League of Cleveland members at the annual Flashes of Hope fundraiser. It was a huge production, filled with Cavs appearances, celebrity chefs walking the runways, people watching galore and of course the little stars that made the evening possible. Flashes of Hope is a wonderful non profit, check out their site for more about them.
Today I am psyched for the J Crew Holiday Soirée at Crocker Park, TONIGHT from 6-8pm. Mention you are shopping for the iheartcleveland.com party and receive an additional 20% your purchase…the sale section is still an additional 40% off (I believe) so it’s practically free! Chocolate peppermint cupcakes by Rosy Girl Cupcakes, fashion deals, holiday sparkle and a nice evening out…looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Today I wanted to share with you a few fun photos from my weekend visit to Nipa Hut in Parma Heights. This filipino market had both great take out food, pretty food packaging and perfect treats for the Thanksgiving holiday. I stocked up on pretty wax-paper wrapped cookies, various crackers and of course homemade frozen eggrolls for our holiday feast. If you are looking for a Cleveland Asian food adventure make your way out to this tiny market and enjoy exploring!
(How cute are these little egg cracker cups? I loved the illustration on the bags!)
(Everyone needs a bit of coconut juice to cure their holiday hangovers.
These cans of Lucia were so pretty I had to have a few!)
(The blend of Italian and Filipino cultures collide in this little bag of sauce, priceless!)
Nipa Hut is located at 675 West 130th St, Parma Heights OH 44130
Where do you go for a good Cleveland food adventure?
