  An Arts Weekend!

WOW, where did all this snow come from? Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but from what I heard the roads were a real bummer for some of our commuters.

Anyhow, back to business…it’s and ART weekend in CLEVELAND and I couldn’t be more jazzed to get out and explore.

First up is tonight’s opening of the new Transformer Station located in Ohio City (next to the Cleveland Vibrator Company…tee hee.) The Transformer Station is a project presented by the Bidwell Foundation in association with the Cleveland Museum of Art bringing contemporary art from around the world to the west side of Cleveland.

  Where am I?

It’s Tuesday and already the week here in Cleveland is shaping up to be pretty great. Isn’t the graffiti art above grand? It was the first thing I saw as I stepped out of my car early yesterday morning, made me smile, giggle and even skip a bit. I cant imagine “growing young” any other way…be young! Do you know where I was?

Have you heard about the show that is currently showing at the Cleveland Museum of Art called “Copia: Retail, Thrift & Dark Stores” by Brian Ulrich? This photography exhibit examines American consumer culture and shows the beauty (and even the ugly) in our society’s habits.

Well, anyhow, this Friday, November 18th the Museum is hosting what sounds to be a very fun party called “Buyers Remorse” from 7-10pm. Meet the artist, enjoy some high-energy tunes by Clevelands-own Dj Reena Samaan and grab a cocktail at the cash bar. The museum is asking all attendees to wear  something they might have once “impulse” purchased or even a complete head to toe vintage outfit. You pick, but this party should be a great balance of art, design, fashion and silly frugal fun. Reserve your $8 ticket ($6 for students) to avoid any ticket sell-out disappointment, get yours here!

Have a fun Tuesday, BE YOUNG and get your entrance to the big “Buyer’s Remorse” bash this Friday!

  4th Coast Pop Up Market

I can’t say I know much about this event, but if my friend Brian of Grey Cardigan is participating then I think this Pop Up market presented by Survival Kit Gallery should be pretty cool.

The 4th Coast Pop Up Market is a collective of local designers and artists and  features many limited editions and one of a kind pieces. The market/evening will also include vintage clothing, records and other unique items.

If you weren’t able to attend the flurry of holiday shows, then this January event is something you don’t want to miss. The event is Friday the 21st from 5-11pm and Saturday the 22nd from 12-6pm.

Survival Kit Gallery is in the 78th Street Studios at 1305 West 80th Street, Suite 3C

Day 6 : Aperture Photography & Variety Store

Good morning Cleveland. Brrrrr, I’m not one to usually complain about the weather (because we DO live in Cleveland!) but it is bone chilling out there. Make sure to really bundle up when you are taking to the town.

Today’s giveaway is compliments of Aperture Photography & Variety Store located in Tremont at 2541 Scranton Rd. (on the corner across from Tremont Tap House). Founded this year, this little gem of a store/gallery makes it a point to celebrate the beauty in non-digital photography.

At Aperture you won’t find the same cameras as you can pick up at some big box, instead you will have the opportunity to browse their vintage cameras, to learn about film (REAL film!), to enjoy their extensive photography gallery all while drinking a cup of joe from the bar. In their own words, it’s “1500 sq. feet of pure photography ecstasy.”

In partnership with The Impossible Project, (Polaroid veterans who saved instant film production) Aperture is giving one VERY lucky reader a limited edition “Impossible Cool Cam & Film Kit” which includes a 600 series Polaroid camera and one pack of new PX600 UV film (valued @ $99). This prize is INSANE!

At Aperture they not only sell vintage cameras but moving into the new year expect many photography exhibits and gallery shows from these creatives. To find out about these events and  to enter the Day 6 Giveaway, friend Aperture on facebook, then return to iheartcleveland and leave a comment about your experience (if any!) with film cameras. (please include your email, winner will be drawn Tuesday, December 21st)

Thanks guys, good luck in 2011, I LOVE the concept of your new store and gallery and can’t wait to visit soon!

Day 1 : To Be A Kid Photography

First up on the 12 Days of Giveaways is compliments of the lovely and oh so talented Colleen, owner and photag from To Be A Kid Photography.

Originally from Cleveland, Colleen Chrzanowski spent a handful of years working as a photographer in the big apple. Coming home to Cleveland not only gave her a better sense of life balance, but it also allowed for her to spread her wings and dive into the world of portraiture photography, hence To Be A Kid Photography was born.

With a focus on babies, children and families, her on-location approach allows for the subjects to feel comfortable with Colleen allowing her to capture those everyday special moments.

From the daily routines like a simple lunch or a short walk, to the fresh but more formal set ups each image that Colleen captures is a stunning representation of personality. Her work is unique, casual and calm, not posed or contrived it’s what portraiture of today should be.

With that said To Be A Kid Photography wants to offer iheartcleveland the opportunity to win a 45 minute in-home (greater Cleveland area only please) photography session for up to two kids in the same family along with a high resolution CD containing 10 images for your personal to use. (upgrades such as a longer session, canvas prints, etc available) This giveaway is valued at $150 but could also be put towards a larger opportunity if so inclined.

There is still time to get those adorable photo holiday cards in the mail. Wouldn’t a special shot of your little loved ones be so great on a 2011 New Years card?

To enter to win, visit To Be A Kid, “LIKE” them on facebook, and then come back here and tell us which photo is your favorite and why. (please include your email, winner to be drawn on Friday December 10th, 2010)

Moms…please forward this contest to your other Mom pals. I’d really appreciate it. :)

  Be Social.

So I was just dying to see the movie “The Social Network,” and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. The story; although slightly “Hollywood-ized” the film gave me a clearer understanding as to the timeline of facebook and how the words “wall,” “status” & “face booking” were conceived. I give it two thumbs up for sure.

On this chilly, damp evening grab some friends, post on your wall, be social…go see “The Social Network.”

In the meantime check out this AMAZING picture taken by David Mayland from his cell phone, STUNNING. Thanks for letting me share it David!

Cleveland, see a movie, stay warm and enjoy all those scarves and boots that were put away for the summer. Bust ‘em out.
