  lilacs & healthy living!

Good morning! While it is super chilly, and I couldn’t bring myself to wear tights anymore, I sit here with goosebumps awaiting the weeks warmer temps. How aout you guys, did anyone bust out their winterwear this morning? Smart!

One of the things that I LOVE about this time of year are all the amazing flowering trees we have in Northeast Ohio…especially lilacs. The white ones are my favorites, then the super dark purple ones and I would never turn away a bundle of the simple everyday light lavender hue as well.

  Cocktail time!

Hey friends, happy sunny Monday to you! Did everyone have a nice weekend? Did you shower the Mom’s in your life with lots of love and special somethings?

It was a busy weekend for me including drinks at Luxe followed by a late showing of Gatsby, a trip to PA to hit up IKEA  and purchasing gobs of tile for our home remodel project, yoga at the new uptown Cleveland Yoga and to top off the night a smidgen of menchies!

On the way to IKEA I was lucky enough to be a passenger and get through a stack of magazines that were on my weekend to-do list. I love tearing out reference, inspiration, things to buy…you know like old fashioned pinterest! One of the things that caught my eye was the Cleveland Independents Bartender Competition…while I may have missed the first one I am gonna try my darndest to get out, support these local celebrity’s and “sample” a few of their best creations.  Check out who is actually competing here.

Enjoy the sunshine and get psyched as it looks like the summer temps will be back later this week. Peace out!

In honor of the 75th Anniversary of Action Comics SUPERMAN Mayor Frank Jackson has declared April 18th, National Superman Day!

Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound this guy has stole the heart of not only Clevelanders but children and adults all over the globe.

For activities throughout the city that “heart” and promote our superhero check out this nice article that The Plain Dealer published. Some of the activities and events include comic book readings, free comic books and a not-to-be-missed a convention. Check it out!

  100 Days in Cleveland

A few weeks ago I was thrilled to receive Julia Kuo’s email. She explained to me how she was setting out for the ultimate self challenge…to draw, sketch or paint something she likes about Cleveland for the next 100 Days. I had to check it out.

Can I tell you how giddy I was when I saw her work? Stunning. The beauty in the every day details. The sunshine and shadows. The special nuances about a building, an outdoor space, a nook. She truly is such a gem to our city and one talented force to be reckoned with.

Julia, congratulations, this is going to be an amazing project for you and for our city. I can’t wait to check in from time to time on your progress. Good luck!

(I chose to share her illustrations of Root Cafe & Blackbird Bakery, because they are two of MY most frequented places in town!)

  market under glass giveaway!

Morning Cleveland. A cute rain coat, some sassy wellies and perhaps a bubble-like umbrella should make this weeks forecast of rain, rain, and more rain a tiny bit more fabulous.

Again, another great week in our dear city, including this Thursday’s 16th Annual Market Under Glass event. Filled with unlimited food and drink, this event is the largest fundraiser for Harvest for Hunger.

I went last year (I passed out adorable apps made by Three Birds) and the fundraiser was more fun than I could have ever imagined. Tons of people, great food, decadent desserts…it was over the top amazing. Everyone should get their ticket and meet me there this year!

Speaking of tickets, I have a pair to give one lucky winner (tomorrow…TUESDAY) valued at $170 for the pair. To win, leave me your name and email, winner will be drawn at random.

  Emails. Mom-friends. FREE babysitting!

I know a big audience for blogs are the tried and true heros of the world…Mom’s. As a way to connect with “outside world,” to stay up on trends, news, recipes, family stories blogs are a wonderful way to connect with others in Cleveland to the other side of the world.

This blog (iheartcleveland) was actually really inspired by some of my “mom-friends.” You see as many of my friends left the corporate world to raise their families, I took it upon myself to write to them elaborate emails about the happenings of the social scene, making sure they weren’t left out. Fast forward a few months and I heard someone talking about how they had been forwarded “this email about fun things happening around town”…MY EMAILS had been forwarded, I was thrilled!

This email, then turned itself into a blog for not just mom’s but also artists, non-profits, hipsters, tourists, creative like-minded Cleveland cheerleaders and many more. So first and foremost to those of you who forwarded on my emails…thank you.

Now onto the “free” childcare. I have this friend (who was one of those email forwarding mom-friends) who is just delightful and very smart. She and a handful of friends came up with this idea of a babysitting co-op, where you trade points in exchange for a babysitting time.

These ladies of the “co-op” don’t miss a social beat, they are movers and shakers, they attend MANY of the events I write about, never EVER complaining about paying a sitter. Their babysitting co-op allows for my friends to sneak away to a lunchtime yoga class, a few film festival flicks, a wine tasting with the girls or dinner out with their special someone. Check out the nitty gritty details (how it works, starting your own, etc.) about the co-op here from an article the Plain Dealer did on them back in 2007.

It’s 2011 and I can’t believe I have never actually A) thanked all my mom-friends who follow this blog and B) ever taken the opportunity to gush about how creative parenting and babysitting co-ops TOTALLY ROCK! You ladies always amaze me, you should be very proud of yourselves…I’m proud to know great groups like yours exist in Cleveland.

  Ramona & Ted Williams

We all love him…that deep voice, his crazy comments (“Matt Lauer brings out the female in me,”) and his silly arm motions.

Check out this interview with Channel 3′s Ramona Robinson…

He might just be what the Cavs needs to spice it up a bit? :)

  Music Monday

Good morning Cleveland. Did everyone have a blustery weekend, boy was it chilly out there. The sun was sorta deceiving as it was hat, scarf AND mittens weather for sure.

With the first full week back at work under my belt, I am back to a bit of blogging. Sorry last week was a bit sparse, but business comes first, so sometimes the posts are spotty.

Over the weekend I was lucky enough to see shows both Friday AND Saturday. Two nights of music equals lots of dancing, swaying, tapping my toes, standing in crowds, a few drinks sprinkled in and sleeping in late the next morning. All totally worth it. :)

During these shows I discovered an adorable little songstress called Leah Lou. Her sound is charming and oh so sweet. A bit of british pop mixed with a simple beat and she steals your heart. Her sound similar to Meiko or early Kate Nash, her style a bit Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice (perhaps it was the striped tights.) She really is someone you need to find and follow around town, I think you’ll like her.

Along the same lines, I like those local singer songwriter types and Shivering Timbers ranks pretty high in my book. A husband and wife out of Akron, their latest album is about the celebration, the frustration the anticipation of raising a little one. The album is perfect for every hipster parent you know! Filled with cool nouveau lullaby’s and simple lyrics, you and your friends will be humming along in no time. Shivering Timbers will be performing THIS Thursday at Now That’s Class in Cleveland. I can’t wait to see them perform my favorite tracks…Little Bird and Noble Duke of York!

Stay warm, stay inside, listen to music and bundle up when going to shows.
