  Giveaway : Tri-C JazzFest

Good morning CLE & happy TAX Day! Hope everyone got by without owing too much to “the man” this year. Perhaps you’ve even received a refund…time to shop! :)

Did you know that this week kicks off the JazzFest? Last year I had the pleasure of attending the Tri-C JazzFest for the very first time. I saw the very talented, stunning and engaging artist Diana Krall at one of the many concerts during the week of live music presented by the JazzFest.

Now is your turn to win a pair of tickets and experience for yourself just how great this annual event really is.

Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland features jazz performances, classes, lectures, and many other concert and community outreach activities. Local and national artists teach, compose, arrange, and perform. Concerts take place at PlayhouseSquare, the Metropolitan Campus of Cuyahoga Community College, and the new MOCA Cleveland. This year, the show is running from April 19 thru May 4.

In addition to the show, there is an Opening Night Party on April 19 to kick off the festival! The party will be held at Playhouse Square in the State Theatre Lobby from 5-7pm and is sponsored by Great Lakes Brewing Company. The event is free and open to the public, and will feature live music by Detroit’s Nadir & Distorted Soul. After the party, the fest will kick off with performances by Aaron Neville and Dr. John at 8pm!

So you want in? Want that free pair of tickets? Visit the festival site to explore the performers, then tweet me @iheartclev  which artist you would like to see at this years  #TriCJazzFest. Winner to be chosen by  Wednesday, April 17th! Good luck.

  New Cleveland Christmas Anthem!

Check out this soon-to-be-your-new-favorite Christmas anthem, called Northcoast Christmas from The Modern Electric.

The Modern Electric is a cinematic pop band from Cleveland, Oh that combine soul, melody and emotion to soundtrack those moments in life that are just like the movies. Christmas Story anyone?

The track is a celebratory anthem that captures the joys, struggles and triumphs of a Christmas on the Northwest. My favorite line is “Shopping at a thrift store in December, this’ll be a Christmas to remember.” I feel like it speaks to me. HA!

Listen to the tune, download it for FREE, tell your friends about it, like them on facebook, get to know The Modern Electric. Thanks for the treat you guys, happy holidays!

  Brooke Fraser @ Beachland, giveaway!

It is another one of those days…chilly, damp and the perfect singer-songwriter music type of day.

Today I am swaying to the tunes of the lovely Miss Brooke Fraser. A native of New Zealand, Brooke will be visiting the Beachland (in the ballroom) next Monday night, May 9th to promote her new album “Flags.”

I think her sound is a blend of Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat with a twist of the unique sounds of  feist.

To listen to some of her songs, like her on Facebook, nice music to get you though today.

I have a pair of tickets to see this show, so drop me a note and let me know if you would like to spend your Monday night with the musical songstress, very talented and beautiful Brooke Fraser (tickets will be give away by Friday at noon). Hope to see you there!

  2011 Cleveland…the Best One Yet!

So with the new year, comes lots of new goals. Time to start fresh, to set new expectations, to reach for the stars…all those kinda things.

With that said, I have been making it a goal to hit the treadmill more and more. I’ve been a runner for a handful of years, I go in and out of exciting road racing as well as treadmill hell, lots of ebbs and flows.  Like most workout enthusiasts, I love being able to track my progress and running is a great way to do so (1 mile to a 5K to a 10K to a half, etc.).

Well, last night as I was pounding the faux pavement, I was listening to the new Black Eyed Peas album. There is this new song I’m sorta addicted too….“The Best One Yet.”

As I started singing along (in my head of course) I realized the song not only spoke to me, but I was thinking that perhaps we, as Clevelanders should truly embrace the lyrics and make this new year, The Best One Yet!

So, I am giving you some of the lyrics…you can see where I put in “Cleveland” as a reminder. Next time the song comes on in the car, in the kitchen, in the club or at the mall, tell your friend, to make this year IN CLEVELAND the BEST ONE YET!

Right now..
Right now is the right time  (Cleveland)
For the good thing in life, lets celebrate (Cleveland)
Lets bring upon the better times and let the saddest time disappear (ooh) (Cleveland)
I feel like a champion in a stadium
There’s love in pandemonium
Imma purpose in my memory as the best time ever (Cleveland)

This is the best one yet, and I’m so happy
How could we ever forget? (Cleveland)
This is the best one, this is the best one
This is the best one yet and Im so happy
How could we ever forget?
This is the best one, this is the best one
This is the best one yet
Lets celebrate (x2) (Cleveland)

This is your moment, this is your moment (Cleveland)
This is the time, this is the time  (Cleveland)
To get it right tonight  (Cleveland)
To get it right  (Cleveland)
You don’t wanna let the moment pass you by (Cleveland)
So come on and see this one in a photograph
Everything that made us cried and made us laughed  (Cleveland)
The night is young and will raise a glass  (Cleveland)
Would make it count like the best one we ever had  (Cleveland)
The best one yet (x14)

Thanks Fergie & crew, I love you gusy!

  Music Monday

Good morning Cleveland. Did everyone have a blustery weekend, boy was it chilly out there. The sun was sorta deceiving as it was hat, scarf AND mittens weather for sure.

With the first full week back at work under my belt, I am back to a bit of blogging. Sorry last week was a bit sparse, but business comes first, so sometimes the posts are spotty.

Over the weekend I was lucky enough to see shows both Friday AND Saturday. Two nights of music equals lots of dancing, swaying, tapping my toes, standing in crowds, a few drinks sprinkled in and sleeping in late the next morning. All totally worth it. :)

During these shows I discovered an adorable little songstress called Leah Lou. Her sound is charming and oh so sweet. A bit of british pop mixed with a simple beat and she steals your heart. Her sound similar to Meiko or early Kate Nash, her style a bit Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice (perhaps it was the striped tights.) She really is someone you need to find and follow around town, I think you’ll like her.

Along the same lines, I like those local singer songwriter types and Shivering Timbers ranks pretty high in my book. A husband and wife out of Akron, their latest album is about the celebration, the frustration the anticipation of raising a little one. The album is perfect for every hipster parent you know! Filled with cool nouveau lullaby’s and simple lyrics, you and your friends will be humming along in no time. Shivering Timbers will be performing THIS Thursday at Now That’s Class in Cleveland. I can’t wait to see them perform my favorite tracks…Little Bird and Noble Duke of York!

Stay warm, stay inside, listen to music and bundle up when going to shows.
