Hey friends of iheart…hope you have found the nearest city pool, backyard slip ‘n slide or have hauled your umbrellas to the beach. It’s gonna be a hot one today! Not that I am complaining, I love the hot weather.
Last night the warm air blew through my neighborhood as if to say…”take off work tomorrow and come out and play with me.” While this tempting thought ran through my head I knew that the upcoming weekend was filled with lots of outside opportunities and I would surely get my fix if I could just stay focused for a few more work days. Work hard, play hard…gotta love that saying.
Anyhow, in the spirit of summer celebrating a friend of mine went down to explore the weekly Tuesday night Tremont Farmers Market last night. While it is still pretty early in the season there were a handful of veggie vendors, sweets, meats and regional cheese vendors. I picked up a jar of toddy, a cold press coffee to pour over ice cubes for a summertime treat; haven’t tried it yet but can’t wait too.
After our meandering we decided to treat ourselves to a sweet icy confection from the latest addition to the Tremont ice cream scene….welcome Churned. Located snuggly behind Civilization Coffee Shop (1112 Kennilworth) , directly on Lincoln Park this new sweet spot is the brain child of the creators of A Cookie and a Cupcake also located in Tremont. The simple shop features gourmet flavors of ice cream scooped into simple little cups. Each small scoop includes 2 scoops and is totally worth the $3.25 price tag. I actually thought it was quite the steal for the unique flavors they are offering.
Last night I choose Maple Bacon with French Toast paired with Peanut Butter & Jelly with Brioche Toast. It was a match made in sweet and savory heaven. We ate outside and enjoyed watching the urban dwellers scoot around the square. The store was hopping for a busy summer evening and let’s just say…I’m sure we’ll be back.
If you haven’t checked out Churned, make it a destination in your weekend plans!
