Hey CLE fashionistas! Have you heard about the online thrift shop, THRED UP? I am kinda in love with it. I used to be a huge thrift and vintage shopper but nowadays (with our 2.5 yr old toddler and a growing small business) I don’t have the time to commit to the adventure of the search. Enter this online destination for buying (& selling) the best in second-hand fashions.

IMG_8551

It started when I went to their site and requested one of their free “clean-out bags.” I received it in the mail and just like that I was a closet-cleaning-crazy-lady. Personally I like to hang onto everything, I even still have my high school graduation dress…no joke, but this idea of sending my things off to be consigned on the web sounded both super easy and fun. Plus, once you mail your things in, (in the pre-paid bag they provide) if they don’t accept your item to sell, they will recycle it responsibly, simple as that. Making consigning and donating your old things so simple it’s hard not to do it.

ALSO, since I was learning about this new company I did find myself online “browsing” into the wee hours of the nights, when the babes was asleep and all my work was done of course. I ended up grabbing a few really incredible deals for spring/summer including two pairs of brand new summer slides and gold, chunky-heel sandals, both from JCrew! A new little black dress with tags still on and a sparkly shrug for when I’m feeling fancy. Everything was such an incredible deal, I couldn’t pass it up.

So today, I have great offer for all of you who might have looked at their site, but haven’t actually signed up to consign, donate and shop. The team over at THREDUP have provided me a promo code for all first-time users.  JCREW50 = 50% off first-time orders with a discount up to $50. Seriously, it’s an amazing way to clear out the old things that might not fit and make space for new finds. Thanks THREDUP for the fun collaboration!

Hello CLE! Hope you had a great weekend and an even better Monday. We had a pretty chill weekend checking out a new art exhibit, time at home, a fun visit with friends and their new baby, great thai food and lots of family time…

Today I want to share with you about two big art exhibits that are incredible and not to be missed. The first is the Basquiat show at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the second is a new show at the Akron Museum of Art called Please Touch. Both inspiring, both full of energy and passion…you’ve got to make time to go check them out.

Basquiat; The Unknown Notebooks is an intimate look into the life of Brooklyn-based Jean-Michel Basquiat and his series of notebooks. Filled with sketches, notes, daily thoughts this exhibit is thought-provoking and will make you think about the art, the artist and the time period in which it was created. Make sure you get to the exhibit soon, it closes on April 23rd and you won’t want miss out.

You guys!!!! This show was SO MUCH fun…for both adults and toddlers alike. I HIGHLY suggest you pack up the car and head down to Akron to see this show, you have some time it runs until mid July!

Tomato Soup & my new Ascent Vitamix

IMG_8476

So I guess we are back to cold weather at least for a few more weeks! I actually don’t mind, except for the fact that I have a handful of daffodils and tulips starting to bloom and I am concerned they may not pull though the snow. I love wearing cozy sweaters, tights and furry coats so a few more weeks of winter is a-okay with me.

Plus…cold weather means lots of yummy, healthy, homemade soups…and what could be more fun to make in my new Ascent Vitamix machine than a fresh tomato soup?

IMG_8468

I love how simple and how deliciously healthy this recipe is.

Ingredients :
• 2 – 16 ounce cans of tomatoes
• 1 – onion
• 6 – cloves of garlic
• 1 – tbsp good olive oil
• 1/2 – tbsp sea salt
• kale sprouts & fresh parmesan for garnish

IMG_8487This new machine is seriously over-the-top incredible. From the pre-programmed settings, to the new crystal clear container to the entire sleek design of the overall machine, I am loving it so much. With this new machine you can also add a family of various sized containers to make blending things like custom spice mixes or on-the-go smoothies more convenient and portable. Trust me, if you can get your hands on on of these new machines, you are going to really enjoy it.

IMG_8494For this recipe I sautéed the onion and garlic in the olive oil. For some Vitamix recipes you can cook everything directly in your machine but for this recipe but I like how rich the cooked onions and garlic make the tomatoes super rich and decadent.  From here I opened the tomatoes, tossed them in my machine with the salt and added the translucent onions and garlic. Press the soup button on the machine and then wait the to see the Vitamix magic unfold.

IMG_8516IMG_8510I love how this new model even ramps itself up and down depending on the recipe, it is seriously too smart for itself. You just assemble the ingredients, press the button and then clean off the counter as your Vitamix does the work. It will shut itself off and you will have that delicious end product ready to share with your family and friends…voila!

IMG_8529

IMG_8532I added a dash of parmesan cheese and a handful of kale sprouts then it was ready to serve. Healthy, creamy, simple-to-make, hot soup! The perfect meal on these cold (spring) winter days. I hope you enjoyed my recipe and I hope next time you have the opportunity to ask someone for a fancy kitchen gadget you choose the new Vitamix Ascent Series…I promise you won’t be disappointed!
