Falling in love with VNTG Home

VNTG_6
A few weeks ago I was exploring this warehouse space filled with eclectic chairs, tables and armoires. It had rows of one-of-a-kind artwork and cozy sitting nooks with couches and coffee tables. There was a room filled with vintage china as far as the eye can see and another room with exquisite Parisian fabrics all meticulously lined up and ready to dress the seat of a chair, bench or occasional ottoman. Was I dreaming? Where was this mecca of all things vintage? Had I died and gone to home decor heaven? Nope, I was at Cleveland’s newest vintage furnishings marketplace called VNTG Home.

When you first step inside visit VNTG Home you will feel as if this special design destination has been there forever, but in reality, owner Megan and her team have done an incredible job filling the space with different styles and offerings to make our adventure in home decor a super awesome experience. It was like I was on a big treasure hunt and I was ready to get my hands dirty.

Not only does VNTG Home sell one of a kind vintage pieces that also pride themselves at being able to upcycle anything from old to new! Something as small as your broken chair that you’ve been hoarding in your basement (thats me!) to your family heirloom couch that you would really like to give new life too, the creative and talented designers on their team will help you choose the best fabrics, trims, paints and more to make your upcycled piece one-of-a-kind.

I was so excited to have brought along my old chair for a fall makeover. I needed another accent chair for the corner of our grown up living room area and I knew VNTG Home could help. I have been moving this chair around for year. I love it’s modern lines, brass details and mixture of metal and upholstery. I knew I wanted it to look pretty and sophisticated, to be “weighty” but delicate in feel. I met with one of the designers and she helped me go through all the fabrics until we came upon a sweet, almost paint splattered looking tone on tone fabric. We added a detail of a slate blue, linen piping to both sides of the seat cushion and planned to paint the chippy black metal a nice shade of natural white. The entire process of upcycling my old chair was so easy because I had someone their guiding me through the creative, fun process. It wasn’t scary or overwhelming, it was really a great way to take something you have (although you could also choose something they have) and make it new and relevant again.

I think in today’s world we each want furnishings in our homes and apartments that reflect our own personal style. Being able to make something that speaks to you or that matches with something you already have is really cool. Everyone can have a big box store chair or dining room table but none else would have a chair just like one I made with them and I was pretty pumped about it.

(our “new” chair…I’ll have more photos soon when I have it really nice and photographed but I couldn’t wait to share!)

If you haven’t been to visit VNTG home, take advantage of all the excitement this Saturday at Tyler Village during the Cleveland Flea and go explore the marketplace upstairs. They have a whole new section of throw pillows that would take your couch or bed from plain to glam in no time, don’t miss out. If you can’t wait unit tomorrow, their online shop is open 7 days a week and they do a great job with updating the new pieces as they hit the showroom floor. I can’t say more good things about this shop other than I’m in LOVE!!!

I’m going to be visiting VNTG Home over the next few months and sharing some more exciting projects and offerings so stay tuned. In the meantime, save the date for their spooky, eco-chic evening soirée on Wednesday, October 25th where you will have the opportunity to win some great prizes including a gift card to the store. Register here. I can’t wait to celebrate tricks and treats at VNTG Home. See you there!

Hello & Happy Friday friends. What a yucky day, so chilly and wet…Let’s just say it wasn’t the best day for my open-toed, suede booties…brrr! Looks like it supposed to stay around the 50 degree temps pretty much all weekend which means finding activities for the family indoors…enter Cleveland Museum of Art to the rescue.

Not only do they have an incredible area for the kiddo’s, they just opened “Brand-New & Terrific” an exhibit of the work of Alex Katz from the 1950’s. Let’s just say, I am a bit of an art geek and this exhibit might be one of the best I’ve seen in some years.

His work is so totally relatable almost 70 years later. The color combinations are bright and very friendly, you can’t help but smile. I very much enjoyed all of the abstract florals and can even envision them on a skirt or the perfect summer sundress…for the Summer Solstice! I can’t wait to go back to the exhibit and take in more of his work, it is just so cheery. I promise you will love the exhibit and it is going to be the perfect weekend, weather-wise to be indoors. Enjoy & Happy FridYAY!

  CLE Urban Winery

Hey friends! Hope you had a great weekend and that your Monday went off without a hitch! Are you enjoying fall? I think the weather has been super incredible as of late…chilly in the mornings and evenings, warm and cozy during the day…the perfect weather for layering on sweaters and scarves as we enter fall.

The other evening I had the pleasure of visiting the rather new CLE Urban Winery nestled in Cleveland Heights. Just like your wineries out of town, this vino-destination offers an assortment of blends from sweet to dry to something for every pallette. The staff was super helpful in explaining the various wines and the snacking options; they offer the usual cheese & crackers but you are also welcome to bring your own snacks in.

I enjoyed learning about how the wines are made, all while “taste testing” a few of their reds..really enjoyed the Pinot Noir.  I also loved the fact that you can host events at the winery free of charge as long as you partake in drinking their wines. While we were visiting the Cleveland Big Brother, Big Sisters was hosting a happy hour…seems to be a great place to meet with plenty of room for attendees to spread out and mingle. Holiday parties anyone? Call today to book your place at the wine bar!

Anyhow, I just wanted to fill you in on this new, east side hot-spot. Next time you are on Lee give it a try! For more details, check out their site here. Cheers everyone, have a great wine-filled week.

  My Ohio Peach Mule!

IMG_5104

Hey friends. Hasn’t summer in Cleveland just been gorgeous? Beautiful weather, perfect beach temps and the sunsets over Lake Erie, seriously stunning!

We are knee deep in packing our current home as we are getting ready to cross the river to explore the East side of town (I promise to post more on that soon.) I have been donating and organizing and wrapping and packing, it’s honestly a bunch of work. Fun work, but nonetheless a lot…enter my recent summer “cocktail-ing” and my Ohio Peach Mule.

The other night after a marathon packing session I decided to make myself and Mr. C the perfect summer cocktail; an Ohio Peach Mule. Very much like a traditional Moscow Mule with rum and ginger beer (I used Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer,) this drink has pureed peaches and limes mixed in with your rum and ginger beer. It is both refreshing and spicy…the perfect summer night drink. Give it a shot and see what you think.

Makes about 4 cocktails

Ingredients
• ginger infused vodka
• 2 ripe Ohio peaches, peeled & sliced

• crushed ice
• additional peach slices for garnish…to make it pretty
• 4 copper mugs…to keep them extra cold

Directions
In blender, add peach slices, juice of 1 lime and puree. (Can be made ahead & refrigerated.) To each copper mug, add 2-ounces peach puree, juice of 1/2 a lime, 2-ounces ginger infused vodka, stir, add ice and top with Crabbie’s ginger beer.

Happy summer cocktails Cleveland! Cheers to summertime in the 216!

  celebrate Bastille Day!

8EBE43BB-2D9B-4703-9D99-F8E14A1D9580

As a local CLE Francophile I thought it was my duty to recognize a few of this weeks Bastille Day celebrations around town.

Tartine Bistro : While the official Bastille Day holiday is Thursday, July 14th…the team at Tartine is hosting a Bastille Day Festival Sunday July 17th from 11am-3pm. French foods, “adult lemonade,” and a petite street fair to celebrate the holiday!

An American in Paris : Nothing says summer like a picnic with the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom. This Sunday night, July 17th at 7:00pm enjoy the tunes of our own orchestra as they perform An American in Paris with works by Frenchman Maurice Ravel, Aaron Copland and many others. So pack your pretty, picnic blanket, wear your navy and white stripes and chill your bottle of Rosé…I’ll see you on the lawn.

Quiche & Macarons : If you are looking for a sweet indulgence this holiday, swing by the adorable bakery in uptown; Coquette Patisserie. This french destination will have you hooked on jewel-toned macarons from the moment you walk through the door.

Le Petit : Last, but certainly not least I would be remised if I didn’t mention the original Cleveland creperie, Le Petit Triangle Cafe nestled in an adorable, Ohio City neighborhood. I love going to Le Petit with my girlfriends for Saturday mornings for brunch, but don’t forget to get your reservations..it is a hot spot for crepes, omelets and of course mimosa’s.

Happy Bastille Day Cleveland! Vive la France! Vive la Cleveland!
