Gibbs Butcher Block at the old mill

Hey you! The other day I went on an adventure. I had sent my friend an early morning text (I’m talking 7am-ish) about kicking of Memorial Day weekend by going for plants and flowers before going into work. She had the genius idea to head out to a large wholesale greenhouse and fill my car with flats of crawling greens, succulents, herbs, pretty pansies, vines and so much more I can’t even begin to remember. All I know is that planting all the little beauties kept me busy for most of the following Saturday..tons of gardening..it’s a good thing!

Anyhow, on our “operation plants” adventure I couldn’t help but to stop at the cutest butcher shop on the corner of Rt. 252 and Sprague in Columbia Station. Gibbs Butcher Block at the Old Mill the largest butcher shop I have ever stumbled upon. Literally it had rows and rows of every type and flavor of sausage one could imagine. From tequila lime pork, to Great Lakes beer infused meat and if you like hot sausage..check out the cherry bomb sausage. MORE! →

  Chillin’

Hey guys, did you know it’s supposed to reach almost 74 degree’s today? Crazy nice summer weather but it might just be time to click on that AC to keep your home and ride chill…

This is another shot from by cruise down Superior Ave the other evening, the hand lettering and bold colors pulled me in. Made me wonder about who designed that sign and the Clevelanders who painted it…because it’s awesome. As a designer I tend to gravitate towards modern, clean and simple signs and such. However with this sign the retro charm, the funky type and the no fuss design is super impressive, i heart it. Next time you need an expert air conditioning service, you should totally take a ride Brunkow’s…if nothing else than to check out the sign! Keep cool Cleveland, and GO TRIBE!

  Aloha!

Good Monday morning to you CLE! Sorry to be MIA for a few days as I took last week off to holiday in the Hawaian Islands with family and friends. It was like nothing I have ever experienced before, surf lessons, lots of tropical drinks, hula, beach, hiking, sun, super fine sand, turtles, tiki, morimoto, early to bed, early to rise, lagoons and lots of hot sun! It was a tropical paradise.

Upon my return, I noted my westside lawn had grown a foot, the trees were all a bloom and so many Clevelanders were out and about on bikes, nestled in convertibles and enjoying the warm temps! It was like I had brought tropical paradise back in my carry on.

It was great to get away, to make time to think creatively, to dream, to plan new initiativites, to laugh a ton, to get tan (even with my 50SPF everywhere, my italian genes never disappoint) to try new food and to give yourself  new perspective on home and your day to day. Do you have any getaways planned for summer? A weekend camping trip? A long weekend at our “islands?” Perhaps a day trip down south to explore Amish country? Pencil in a weekend or two, grab your friends and make sure to schedule some time to see things from a different perspective, I promise it to be a good time!

A few things I didn’t touch base on while I was away…@melissahigey from yarnovercleveland was the winner of the @GVartwork t-shirt. Congrats Melissa!

Another thing to note is that tickets to this years Cleveland Museum of Art, Summer Solstice event goes on sale TODAY, Monday May 6th. Don’t miss out, grab your tickets today!

And last but certainly not least…to celebrate yesterday’s Cinco De Mayo, the new Lakewood location of Barrio opened! more tacos in Lakewood, get pyched!  Also, don’t know if they still have any on the shelves, but I heard that the chocolate covered tortilla chips by Malley’s and Momocho’s was a big hit. Check them out.

“Mahalo!”

  Being social!

Hey friends, did I tell you how excited I am to have scored one of the coveted tickets to this summer’s Alt Design Summit NYC conference? I’m psyched.

You see, besides posting about all things happening in the CLE; I regularly scour the web for every inspiring design tip, striking image and “how-to” story that I can soak up in my creative head.

As a professional designer I love to surround myself with other creatives and what better location to be infused with creativity than at the offices of the queen of creativity, Martha Stewart. The conference will be hosted by Ms. Martha and her amazing team of creatives at the MSL Omnimedia offices (eeeekkk!)

So I am starting to prep for the workshop and I am doing a bit of blog updating and writing homework. I’m cleaning up my pinterest palace (@charity216) and making a conscious effort to tweet and “RT” on a more regular basis (@iheartclev) I’m exploring new photo apps to share pics on instagram (@charity216) and even making movies on the latest and greatest the creepy, crawly Vine (@iheartcleveland). So much to do in so little time.

Before I know it I will be surrounded by other bloggy, blogsters covered in polka dots and neon prints, this years floral pants and sassy sandals. Spending time sharing tips with one another about life/blog balance, creative apps and design business successes.

This summer can’t come soon enough but this past weekend warm Cleveland temps sure were a treat! Happy Tuesday.

  1-tank trip : Columbus

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take a Saturday, 1-tank trip to Columbus. The skies were bright blue and while 71S was swarming with police cars we managed to make it there in just over two hours with no stops.

We arrived to a quiet Columbus starting our morning with breakfast at North Star Cafe on High Street. Not only was the breakfast yummy, the unlimited magazines and people watching was even better. After breakfast we headed to the new Rothko exhibit at the Columbus Museum of Art. It was awesome, a three room intensive on the life of the artist and how his works once more figurative morphed into intense color studies. Also along with the Rothko exhibit there is this fascinating exhibit of Czech puppets on display in the other galleries, almost as cool as Rothko, but also sorta creepy. You have to check it out!
