Amelia : the little “glamper” that could!

Hey CLE. I have had one heck of an online fun week and I couldn’t help but share.

I don’t know about you, but as a designer one of my daily reads is Design Sponge. This week I was honored to be a part of their  “sneak peaks” section featuring the little nauti Airstream camper named “Amelia.” She comes from right here in Northeast Ohio and I had to share with you her story.

She was purchased off of Craigs List about two hours east of the 216. She had to be towed to Lakewood as she was not “road worthy;” thank goodness I have AAA.

Amelia had a small team of experts including a welding expert (who rebuilt her under carriage,) an Airstream enthusiast (who taught me about 110 volt to battery to propane conversion,) a tradeshow display building expert (who advised me on how things travel, fold, and then constructed the spectacular build out) and even an upholstery maven (who tried to talk me out of white upholstery no avail.) Thank you to each of them for being so willing to work with me on this massive project. I truly had no idea what I was doing but through persistance, lots of reading and searching for tiny parts on ebay (thank goodness for ebay!) we made her beautiful.

  lilacs & healthy living!

Good morning! While it is super chilly, and I couldn’t bring myself to wear tights anymore, I sit here with goosebumps awaiting the weeks warmer temps. How aout you guys, did anyone bust out their winterwear this morning? Smart!

One of the things that I LOVE about this time of year are all the amazing flowering trees we have in Northeast Ohio…especially lilacs. The white ones are my favorites, then the super dark purple ones and I would never turn away a bundle of the simple everyday light lavender hue as well.

  Aloha!

Good Monday morning to you CLE! Sorry to be MIA for a few days as I took last week off to holiday in the Hawaian Islands with family and friends. It was like nothing I have ever experienced before, surf lessons, lots of tropical drinks, hula, beach, hiking, sun, super fine sand, turtles, tiki, morimoto, early to bed, early to rise, lagoons and lots of hot sun! It was a tropical paradise.

Upon my return, I noted my westside lawn had grown a foot, the trees were all a bloom and so many Clevelanders were out and about on bikes, nestled in convertibles and enjoying the warm temps! It was like I had brought tropical paradise back in my carry on.

It was great to get away, to make time to think creatively, to dream, to plan new initiativites, to laugh a ton, to get tan (even with my 50SPF everywhere, my italian genes never disappoint) to try new food and to give yourself  new perspective on home and your day to day. Do you have any getaways planned for summer? A weekend camping trip? A long weekend at our “islands?” Perhaps a day trip down south to explore Amish country? Pencil in a weekend or two, grab your friends and make sure to schedule some time to see things from a different perspective, I promise it to be a good time!

A few things I didn’t touch base on while I was away…@melissahigey from yarnovercleveland was the winner of the @GVartwork t-shirt. Congrats Melissa!

Another thing to note is that tickets to this years Cleveland Museum of Art, Summer Solstice event goes on sale TODAY, Monday May 6th. Don’t miss out, grab your tickets today!

And last but certainly not least…to celebrate yesterday’s Cinco De Mayo, the new Lakewood location of Barrio opened! more tacos in Lakewood, get pyched!  Also, don’t know if they still have any on the shelves, but I heard that the chocolate covered tortilla chips by Malley’s and Momocho’s was a big hit. Check them out.

“Mahalo!”

  Giveaway : Tri-C JazzFest

Good morning CLE & happy TAX Day! Hope everyone got by without owing too much to “the man” this year. Perhaps you’ve even received a refund…time to shop! :)

Did you know that this week kicks off the JazzFest? Last year I had the pleasure of attending the Tri-C JazzFest for the very first time. I saw the very talented, stunning and engaging artist Diana Krall at one of the many concerts during the week of live music presented by the JazzFest.

Now is your turn to win a pair of tickets and experience for yourself just how great this annual event really is.

Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland features jazz performances, classes, lectures, and many other concert and community outreach activities. Local and national artists teach, compose, arrange, and perform. Concerts take place at PlayhouseSquare, the Metropolitan Campus of Cuyahoga Community College, and the new MOCA Cleveland. This year, the show is running from April 19 thru May 4.

In addition to the show, there is an Opening Night Party on April 19 to kick off the festival! The party will be held at Playhouse Square in the State Theatre Lobby from 5-7pm and is sponsored by Great Lakes Brewing Company. The event is free and open to the public, and will feature live music by Detroit’s Nadir & Distorted Soul. After the party, the fest will kick off with performances by Aaron Neville and Dr. John at 8pm!

So you want in? Want that free pair of tickets? Visit the festival site to explore the performers, then tweet me @iheartclev  which artist you would like to see at this years  #TriCJazzFest. Winner to be chosen by  Wednesday, April 17th! Good luck.

  be kind.

Hello CLE. Isn’t this sunshine divine? It truly just makes me so happy. Also, side note…just looked at Monday’s weather and for Opening Day…50, overcast but NO RAIN! Get psyched!

Okay, today I wanted to share a little video that was developed by our friends at the Cleveland Clinic. It was initially an internal piece for employees and such, but I think it speaks VOLUME to how we as humans and as citizens of the CLE should behave. It’s a bit over 4 minutes in length and has “subtitles” so you have to actually read the video, but it is moving and I hope you like it.

If you do, pass it along to your friends who might also need a bit of a reminder that we are all individuals with different things going on…and we all live here on this earth together.

Great job Clinic marketing and communications team, it truly is a wonderful piece!
