  1-tank trip : Columbus

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take a Saturday, 1-tank trip to Columbus. The skies were bright blue and while 71S was swarming with police cars we managed to make it there in just over two hours with no stops.

We arrived to a quiet Columbus starting our morning with breakfast at North Star Cafe on High Street. Not only was the breakfast yummy, the unlimited magazines and people watching was even better. After breakfast we headed to the new Rothko exhibit at the Columbus Museum of Art. It was awesome, a three room intensive on the life of the artist and how his works once more figurative morphed into intense color studies. Also along with the Rothko exhibit there is this fascinating exhibit of Czech puppets on display in the other galleries, almost as cool as Rothko, but also sorta creepy. You have to check it out!   Brite Winter & Buck Buck

Happy sunny Tuesday CLE. Are you all ready for Thursday? Happy hearts day with your best friend, your favorite guy or your main pet squeeze; always such a sweet holiday. I don’t now why I love Valentines so much? I have always loved the February holiday though…from the memories of making special valentines for my 2nd grader peers, to college valentine day formals, to spending a single girl evening with friends; overall it’s just such a pretty holiday. Loving my pink sparkles and red lipstick, bows and hearts, yadda yadda…it just makes me happy. How about you? Guys…even you, I expect to see you rocking the hearts day theme on Thursday, I’m just sayin…

If you aren’t into Valentines Day but the weekend is already on your horizon, you are in for a treat…this weekend is Brite Winter Festival; an arts & music winter celebration. I went to this event last winter and it made Ohio City look like Manhattan on New Years Eve. Parking was crazy (valet is a must!), the hustle and bustle on the sidewalks was fast and furious, the bars and restaurants were hopping and the bands and events were really cool….get it, cool? Winter?  :)

This Saturday there will be 48 bands set up around Ohio City on 6 stages, over 15 light installations and art events along with other fun happenings around town.

Along with “Brite,” around the corner and south a bit on Lorain, Buck Buck Gallery is hosting an opening to their latest installation featuring HEAVY PETALS by Molly Pamela. Check it out!

So, along with hearts day this week, it’s also a great winter week to celebrate art and music in our awesome city. Bundle up and get on out there CLE…it’s gonna be fun!

  An Arts Weekend!

WOW, where did all this snow come from? Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but from what I heard the roads were a real bummer for some of our commuters.

Anyhow, back to business…it’s and ART weekend in CLEVELAND and I couldn’t be more jazzed to get out and explore.

First up is tonight’s opening of the new Transformer Station located in Ohio City (next to the Cleveland Vibrator Company…tee hee.) The Transformer Station is a project presented by the Bidwell Foundation in association with the Cleveland Museum of Art bringing contemporary art from around the world to the west side of Cleveland.

  MOCA Cle!

Did you know the first Saturday of each month the new MOCA Cleveland is free to the public? Yep, no admission to this new architectural masterpiece should be on your 2013 list of CLE things to do. MORE! →

day 2 : Put the Needle on the Record book

Good evening my dear friends. Where did today go? In my other day job, I work for a graphic design firm and we have been hustling and bustling in prep for this weekend’s big Bazaar Bizarre. I apologize for the late post, but here we go!

So THANK YOU to all who came out to Dredgers Union last night for the first ANNUAL (we are gonna do it again next year!) Shopping Shindig. It was great to meet a few of you for the first time and also see some of my favorite CLE friends. Thanks to Sweet Moses for the awesome chocolate tasting tray and the amazing sea salt caramel popcorn (remember to check out their holiday gift tins, makes a yummy gift!) and to Crav Vodka, the cocktail was the perfect shopping companion.

Just a few pictures of last night before we get going with “day 2!”

(a “Cravberry” cocktail kept the shopping juices flowing)

(some happy shoppers celebrate the holiday shopping season in style!)

(Sweet Moses makes amazing gift tins filled with all sorts of delicious treats, stop in today and cross off that shopping list!)

(Allison won the one 50% off coupon, congrats to you!)

So all and all it was a lot of fun. Plus, I too walked away with a few gifts and a little navy skirt with iphone-sized pockets just perfect for moi. :) Enough about me…onto the giveaway.

Today our gift for you comes from a good friend, of a friend, Mr. Matthew Chojnacki author of “Put the Needle on the Record.” This book compares more than 250 vinyl single covers that represent nearly every prominent 80’s musician; and who doesn’t love a good Madonna album cover?

Seriously, this book is the first of its’ kind, Matt spent hundreds of hours interviewing the musicians about the process, the artists, the decisions and many other unheard pieces of music history to write this masterpiece. I am proud too call him one of Northeast Ohio’s experts on 80’s music for sure!
Check out this stop action video for promotion of the book, makes me want to dance in my multiple sets of legwarmers. :)

Want a copy of this new release? To win this new book in time for the holidays, like Matt’s book on facebook and then comment on this post, tweet me about the post (@iheartcleev) or both! (2 entries per person). The winner will be notified by the end of day Monday, December 12th. Good luck!

In the meantime, if you must get your hands on a copy, I believe Matt will be selling “put the needle on the record” this weekend at Bazaar Bizarre. Stop by and meet this music mastermind! Thanks Matt.
