Yesterday I was driving down Superior probably around the 40’s somewhere and I spotted this incredible wall mural.   giveaway : Art Supplies from Pat Catans

Good morning CLE and happy Tuesday to ya!

Many of you might know this about me but I am a total art geek. Thanks to my Mom, I spent my childhood growing up with a craft box under my bed. My Saturday mornings were spent in painting classes with other “free spirit”kids and by the time I reached college I was attending gallery openings in my down time, hanging out in the painting lofts of fellow art school students and taking extra credits in anything from silk screen to stained glass. As a professional graphic designer I feel lucky each day that I get to create visual inspiration for a living.   1-tank trip : Columbus

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take a Saturday, 1-tank trip to Columbus. The skies were bright blue and while 71S was swarming with police cars we managed to make it there in just over two hours with no stops.

We arrived to a quiet Columbus starting our morning with breakfast at North Star Cafe on High Street. Not only was the breakfast yummy, the unlimited magazines and people watching was even better. After breakfast we headed to the new Rothko exhibit at the Columbus Museum of Art. It was awesome, a three room intensive on the life of the artist and how his works once more figurative morphed into intense color studies. Also along with the Rothko exhibit there is this fascinating exhibit of Czech puppets on display in the other galleries, almost as cool as Rothko, but also sorta creepy. You have to check it out!   100 Days in Cleveland

A few weeks ago I was thrilled to receive Julia Kuo’s email. She explained to me how she was setting out for the ultimate self challenge…to draw, sketch or paint something she likes about Cleveland for the next 100 Days. I had to check it out.

Can I tell you how giddy I was when I saw her work? Stunning. The beauty in the every day details. The sunshine and shadows. The special nuances about a building, an outdoor space, a nook. She truly is such a gem to our city and one talented force to be reckoned with.

Julia, congratulations, this is going to be an amazing project for you and for our city. I can’t wait to check in from time to time on your progress. Good luck!

(I chose to share her illustrations of Root Cafe & Blackbird Bakery, because they are two of MY most frequented places in town!)
