  Lizardville

Happy Friday everyone. What the heck is all this rain all about? Shouldn’t this be the pretty white fluffy stuff instead? Not to worry, I hear the snow will come back next week for a visit. Plus, if you want to think positively about it, it’s sorta nice to wash away all the dirty snow and be able to start fresh. Bust out your wellies and fluffy umbrellas, it’s gonna be a wet weekend.

Switching gears, have you ever been to “Lizardville?” I went for the first time last weekend. Trying to discover a few new places in this new year. Since I enjoy an afternoon  at Winking Lizard, I was curious what their “specialty” spot was all about.

Lizardville is a beer store offering over 600 different bottled beers from around the world. It is also a whiskey bar featuring over 170 whiskeys …they supposedly have the largest selection of whiskeys in Ohio.

We had mini sirloin & chicken burgers which were tasty and of course enjoyed a whiskey cocktail as well. The atmosphere was cozy, including lounge and traditional dining seating. I would for sure go back to try our some of the other cocktails but I have to say my “Ginger Cookie” was super yummy (Bulleit bourbon t & ginger beer) and I just might get another!

Cheers to weekend of cocktails, of home improvement, of spending times with friends celebrating birthdays and of course…the Golden Globes!

  1 yr bday Mrkt Grdn!

Happy birthday Market Garden Brewing Company! We are excited that you decided to become one of Cleveland’s coolest destinations for outdoor patio fun as well as a winter wine evening go-to with friends. I can’t believe a year has gone by since you have been with us. It seems like just yesterday you introduced me to the dangerous Shoreway Cooler, and yummy (but a bit foul looking) soft pretzel “stick.” Your t-shirts, totes and staff are all a well designed arm of your business brand and I can’t applaud you more.

If you are new or just visiting C-town make it a point to swing into Market Garden Brewery for one of their custom beers or plan to spend the entire afternoon catching rays on the patio and sampling their menu to the fullest. You won’t be disappointed.

For the rest of the week celebratory events and weekend happenings friend them on facebook for all the updates!

  beer on tap – giveaway

Hello Cleveland, happy Tuesday to each of you. Isn’t this weather divine? A wonderful past weekend of riding bikes, patios and sunshine makes me a super happy CLE-camper. I even switched over my closet from winter blacks and greys to more pattern and vibrancy…summer is when my closet comes to life, another reason to be happy…flip flops, I digress.

Do you like beer? Well, you are in luck because I have a pair of general admission tickets (valued at $90!) to the IX International Beer Festival happening THIS WEEKEND at the IX Center. I am way more a wine drinker (mostly reds) but I am a sucker for a good light wheat ale, a Corona on a beach or the seasonal brews, especially at Christmas time…you know what I’m talking about. :)

The ticket includes admission to selected entry sessions, unlimited tastings, a special tasting cup and special demos and educational sessions on everything BEER! Tell me which brewery you’d like to sample and a random winner will be drawn this Friday by noon. Good luck and happy hops to all.

  Bling Bling by Buckeye

Hello Cleveland! Has the dust settled form the holidays? Are you back to business? Were you productive and managed to take the tree and decorations during last nights Ohio State football game?

I am still glowing from the really fun holiday season I had, between work outings and new years karaoke, it was a holiday season to remember for sure!

So, last night on my way home I stopped at Natures Bin to pick up a few things for dinner when all of a sudden this small orange happy face jumped off the shelves and into my basket. “Bling Bling” from Buckeye Brewing Company was just so super adorable that I couldn’t pass it up.

I actually didn’t actually drink it (as I sipped on Pinot instead), but it was enjoyed during the games second quarter among three guys and each of them said how tasty it was. So all you burley men out there, don’t let little happy “bling  bling” make you look the other way, this local pale ale is something to make you smile in so many ways.

Cheers!

  weekend happenings

Last night I attended the Petittis Garden Center in Avons Holiday Open House. It was mobbed. Seriously people, already scooping up ornaments (buy two get one free) shopping for outdoor lights, wreaths and more. There were so many people they had parking lot attendants directing traffic. The thing I thought was so cool was the magical talking tree. I was going to snap the picture and the tree lady said to me “ooohhh, are you taking my picture? Let me smile real big for you!” I looked around as if I was dreaming, instantly being transformed into when I was a little kid. The excitement and joy of a singing tree? I can’t stand it. You’ve got to stop by their Holiday Open House weekend (at all locations) and see for yourself. Super cool!

Can you believe the “Speakeasy,” in the basement of Bier Market has been opened for a year now? Stop in Saturday night to the swanky underground culinary cocktail lounge as they will be celebrating their one year anniversary. Featuring a brand new fall/winter cocktail menu they will have DJ Go spinning the beats all night long.

Although All Saints Day is officially the day of Dia de Los Muertos, this weekend we are going to celebrate it! Join the community for the 6th Annual Day of the Dead  weekend celebration. A joyous multimedia artistic expression of the Mexican holiday that celebrates the cycle of life. Events will be held on both Saturday and Sunday. Plenty of Pan de Muerto (bread of the dead) for sale. Everything from face painting, to parade, music, dancers, altar displays and more. The festivities will take place at the Cleveland Public Theatre East Campus, 6205 Detroit Ave. Cleveland OH 44102. From 12- 10pm Click here, for more information.

Craving a french pastry or two? (I am.)  This years Cleveland Magazine “Best of Cleveland” Coquette Patisserie is bringing an extra-special treat to Saturday mornings Shaker Market.  A pecan tart laced with chocolate, coffee, and whisky. They’re calling it “Drivin’ Me Nuts”! It’s definitely not yo mamma’s pecan pie. PLUS, they sell all sorts of macaroons , they are light as air, they almost melt in your mouth.

Who said “Human beings are the only creatures that allow their children to come back home” or “Gray hair is God’s graffiti?” yes, you guessed it , the funky sweater wearing Mr. Bill Cosby. Feel like hearing him speak? Looking for a good laugh or two? Saturday night, Bill will be doing stand up at the Akron Civic Center. Tickets are still available.

This weekend the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will unveil it’s latest exhibit “Extreme Mammals.” I think this sounds like the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon, dodging the sleet, rain snow mixture while exploring all the interesting species the museum has to offer. The Biggest, Smallest and Most Amazing Mammals of All Time will be visiting Cleveland through April.

What else is everyone doing this weekend in Cleveland…besides staying warm?
