  Princesses on Ice

Morning CLE. How was your Monday? I know many of you cringe at the idea of getting back to work, but I really enjoy the routine of it all. Getting up around the same time, making coffee, getting to work, enjoying lunch, more time for work, a bit of time for working out and them home to enjoy the night. Not that I don’t love a long vacation, but back to routine is good with me right now.

I keep meaning to tell you all about one of the most glittery and sparkly, princess packed events in town end of this week…On Friday; January 11th Disney princesses will be arriving at the Q Arena for the ‘Rockin’ Ever After” the ultimate rock start princess experience around. (see I told you it might be time for a man’s perspective here at “iheart”) This action-packed skating spectacular features world-class skaters from the hit animated films Brave, Tangled, Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid. The show features classic and new Disney princesses – Belle, Ariel and Rapunzel – who rock out with show stopping performances. The show also features “rock star” tunes to keep all of us engaged in the princess overload! :)

Rockin’ Ever After is the newest Disney On Ice production and has never travelled to Cleveland before, be sure to get tickets today as this event is every little girls dreams and will sure to sell out!

  Suite Lorain style.

I feel like I am prepping for Senior Prom with the sold out, Jump Back Ball just two days away. Seriously, it is going to be such a fun party I’m psyched!

Since the Jump Back Ball always creeps up so fat, I always end up looking for a dress last minute. Last weekend I spent my Saturday thumbing through the racks and racks of dresses at the vintage shops in Lakewood and on Lorain Ave in Cleveland. Looking for something a bit vintage and different, but comfortable enough to dance and run around in.

It came down to two dresses. Both from Suite Lorain, a sheer black and nude polka dot dress and more of a long maxi 60’s inspired but very Tory Burch-esque gown. I ended up deciding the longer dress that had sleeves would be warm and swanky for the gala’s “around the world” theme. It looks a little bit sari and a little bit kimono…it’s at the dry cleaners as we speak. Can’t wait to pick it up!

Have you been to Suite Lorain since they have cleaned and reorganized? About a year ago it was purchased by a new owner and he made it a point to dive into every nook and crazy restyling, reorganizing, thawing out the stained and yucky and infusing the store with lots of new great vintage clothes. The store not only has clothes, but it also has your perfect retro sofa, a mod coffee table, and tons of accessories from purses, shoes, rhinestone everything to lots and lots of pearls.

If you are like me and love to find just the perfect vintage treat for your next party, wedding or heck…gala ball, check out Suite Lorain!

  Loneliest Monk : WIN! (7/18)

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

It’s summer, so I’ve been craving a trip out to the Beachland Ballroom for some great music and a cold brew or two… the other evening I was perusing the upcoming calendar when the costumes of Loneliest Monk (listen to them) caught my interest.

Chicago?s art rock duo, The Loneliest Monk, is the musical marriage of two artist with two different backgrounds. Front lady, Michelle Morales (master- of-cellos, keyboards, vocals), has performed live with talented acts such as Phillip Glass, Kanye West, and The Foo Fighters. With a lovely, fragile voice, she sings of all things cute, fun, and innocent while Miles Benjamin (percussion, vocals, tiny pianos) lets his untamed passions pour over in a darker, more mysterious tone. I am thrilled to go see the their performance because I hear it’s not just a rock show. Elaborate costumes, masks, and sets are supported by an avant-garde sound that combines cellos, pianos, organs, drums, samples, and voices. Michelle and Miles bring to the stage a sort of cool, haunting, and sexual air that is a welcoming detraction from the current indie trend.

PLUS, Ms. Blake the bands manager has offered iheartcleveland readers a free pair of tickets as well as TWO digital downloads of their album. Tell me all about the last concert you’ve seen in Cleveland and if you’d like to win these tickets for the Sunday night show OR free tunes. Winner will be drawn Friday afternoon. GIVE ME YOUR EMAIL SO I CAN CONTACT THE WINNER.

Coming from Brooklyn, a sleepover in Cleveland and then on to Chicago…come on Cleveland show ’em what we got! Hope to see you there, 8pm Tavern. $6 a ticket
