  Happy pumpkins & mums!

LGC_1

Happy (almost) Halloween friends! Are you all prepped with oodles of candy for the little ghouls & gobblins? Have your costumes completed and ready to layer on your winter coats and gloves? Did you decorate your front stoop with jack-o-lanterns and black light floods? It is seriously the most wonderful time of the year.

This year we bought two pumpkins. One to carve and one to keep pretty, fingers crossed it lasts up to Thanksgiving. With our 3 year old really into the holiday I was pretty excited to pick up a few battery operated tea lights for our carved pumpkins. The batteries actually worked just as good as the traditional tea lights and we all enjoyed the candle-light-like glow. Total toddler holiday hack.

I really enjoyed picking out pumpkins and mums at Lakewood Garden Center in Lakewood (near St. Eds). They had lots of plants, trees, pots & vessels along with many perennials still hoping to find themselves a good home before winter. They had so many unique pumpkins, they had rows of cornstalks and tables of fall-hued mums. They even let you use their red wagons to pull your selections around the garden center, another toddler treat! LGC_7So if you still need pumpkins, mums or anything garden related before the end of the season, I totally recommend you swing by the Lakewood Garden Center for fall/winter holiday fun. The employees as super helpful and a ton of fun…one even kindly told me I had lipstick on my teeth! HA HA!

LGC_8Happy Halloween you guys. Be safe and have a blast as you roam the CLE neighborhoods begging for candy! Enjoy!LGC_10

The first annual Gathering for Good!

Gfg_!

Today I am so proud to share with you guys the story about the first annual Gathering for Good; raising funds for children’s pediatric cancer research at Cleveland Clinic Children’s.

A few months ago my dear friend Meg Nowlin invited me and my other friend Kim Crane for coffee. I showed up a few minutes late and in my gym clothes and was welcomed by a table full of executives from the Cleveland Clinic…I was in shock. Had I somehow missed that this meeting was a business affair on the text invite? Nope. Meg actually forgot to let Kim and I know we were meeting to brainstorm a new type of fundraising for “Children’s” all together. After the initial shock of yoga pants in professional mode (Kim showed up casual too!) we all jumped at the opportunity to get on board and help in whatever manner Meg and the development team needed us for.

My friend Meg and her family have been so impacted by the work at the clinic, we all knew it was so important. The oldest of the Nowlin family, seven-year-old Maisie is exceptionally inquisitive, bubbly and caring. As the oldest of five children, she is the center of the Nowlin family. Shortly after Maisie’s sixth birthday, her world was turned upside down. Maisie received the diagnosis of a rare bone marrow failure disease called Very Severe Aplastic Anemia (VSAA).

VSAA is a life threatening illness affecting the bone marrow’s ability to produce blood cells and requires serious medical intervention and treatments. In September 2015, it was determined that none of Maisie’s four siblings were a bone marrow match, so in October of 2015 Maisie had to undergo immunosuppressive therapy treatment. Unfortunately, the treatment was ultimately deemed a failure, so the next hope for Maisie was to find a bone marrow donor. In early 2016, Maisie received what her family calls a “miracle”– a match had been found. Maisie underwent a bone marrow transplant, but experienced rare complications that left her requiring more platelet and blood transfusions, and in a hospital bed for weeks to months on end.

We are thrilled to report that today, because of research and experimental opportunities Maisie is attending school and loves hanging out with her friends and family just like any other healthy kid.

I’ve known Meg and Kim for over 12 years and I am honored and humbled to have co-chaired this years Gathering for Good event along with them. It took us about five months from an idea to one of the best summer soirée events I have ever attended. Oh, and did I mention we raised around 40K  for pediatric cancer research initiatives? To say we were proud is an understatement.

11782The weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky or even a touch of wind. We had the most beautiful clear tent, stunning vintage furnishings and delicious food and drinks. A steel drum, music man welcomed everyone to the party and then another talented musician took over half way for a variety of party tunes. There was a silent auction filled with unique CLE experiences of everything from a birthday party at Mitchell’s to a Flats East Bank, rooftop cocktail party for 40 guests.

There are so many people to thank for helping us make the event a huge success but I will give it a shot. Thanks to Meg for coming to Kim and I to help with her vision. Kim & Ryan thank you for hosting the event at your lovely home. Thank you to my creative team at studio Chartreuse for developing such playful and fun creative to support the event. Thanks to Laura for all the behind the scenes work, we know those cookie bags were no joke! Thanks to Ruth and Ann for their party planning expertise, we don’t know what we would have done without you. And for all the attendees who believed in us and the cause, we couldn’t have pulled off such a successful fundraiser without you. Thank you for showing up and bidding on the evenings auction items.

Gfg_4125127Gfg_511986If you weren’t able to attend this annual fundraiser but would still like to make a donation to our cause, please donate here. We are hopeful we will do this event next year so keep an eye out next summer!

Last but not least, to Mother Nature for providing us the most gorgeous evening to celebrate raising funds to support new opportunities for pediatric cancer research at Cleveland Clinic Children’s. (Thank you for the gorgeous photography K. Ardner!)

Summer, REBoL & the closet switch!

114

OMG you guys, where did summer go? It was like one minute it was sunny and we were hanging by the lake and then Labor Day weekend came and Mother Nature flipped her switch and it was instant fall. I don’t know about you…but I like the more gradual approach to seasonal changes. I like to try and squeeze in my last wear of my white pants and summer blouses. I like to sleep with the windows open. I LOVE to drink margaritas outside somewhere on a patio. Summertime, you will be missed because I feel like it is officially fall in Cleveland.

116

Just a few weeks ago I met up with a friend downtown at our gorgeous Public Square for an drinks & snacks at one of my favorite “healthy” dining destinations; REBoL. We sat outdoors and took in the warm sunshine and summer evening sounds of people laughing, playing music and hanging outdoors. We watched the kids play in the fountains and I even jumped in and splashed around with them…I just couldn’t resist.

117

I had one of the best maple and limeade cocktails I have ever experienced and summer felt complete. It’s like we knew that any day now the seasons would change and while we were enjoying strappy sandals and straw bags we would soon be in suede booties and big fall scarves.

Over this past weekend I did my officially closet switch and brought out all of my fall sweaters and cozy boyfriend jeans and coats…I LOVE good coats. I packed away my summer prints…although you might see this incredible “camel coat” pop up with a black turtle neck underneath it this fall, for the most part all of the spring/summer stuff has been put in the way back of my closet until next year. Boo hoo.

If you haven’t been downtown to check out REBoL, you should totally plan a visit. Morning, noon and night, they have a very tasty menu and it is for the most part pretty healthy but always delicious. I actually really love their breakfast menu and always suggest to clients we meet there for project meetings. So yummy.

Hope everyone had a great week back to work after a long holiday weekend. It is supposed to be kinda yucky weather-wise over the next few days, so bust out those rain boots and warm sweaters and stay dry.

Please also keep all of those affected by the recent storms in Texas, Florida and the Islands in your thoughts and prayers, their weather has been nothing like I can even imagine. Have fun packing up your summer duds and pulling out your sweaters…WELCOME FALL in the CLE!

The “Party of the Year” with CPT…PANDEMONIUM!

Pandemonium 2016: The Fire Within from Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) on Vimeo.

Ever since I have moved to Cleveland I have been a HUGE fan of the creative team over at Cleveland Public Theatre. While I love their unique theatre/drama/musical performances, I LOVE the history and uniqueness of each of the individual buildings on the CPT campus. From the moment you walk into one of their spaces you just KNOW you are in for the best visual treat ever. I gotta say I am NEVER disappointed with anything this bunch does. So this is why I am SO SO SO PSYCHED that I am going to be attending this years 15th annual theatrical Pandemonium spectacular and all-inclusive, incomparable, choose-your-own-adventure benefit, next Saturday, September 9th.

Screen Shot 2017-09-01 at 10.40.03 PM

All guests enjoy pulling up to the party with complimentary valet, drinks and delicious food from some of Cleveland’s top chefs, alongside breathtaking entertainment in every corner of CPT’s campus. Named “Fundraiser Event of the Year” (Connectors Choice Award 2013 & 2014), Pandemonium is a uniquely immersive “choose-your-own-adventure” style event, featuring nearly 300 Northeast Ohio artists premiering over 50 original works and musical acts on 20 different stages and in unexpected places. The Pandemonium 2017 lineup includes bands, DJs, contemporary dance, short plays, comedy, cabaret performances and more.

This year’s theme is “UNLEASH” and I can’t wait to let my hair down (totally more in the sense of the words than actually wearing my hair down because you guys know…I am more of a side bun girl!) and party with some of the most creative people Cleveland has to offer, SO EXCITED!!!

The good news is that there are still a handful of tickets available online at www.cptonline.org or by calling (216) 631-2727 ext. 501. Proceeds support CPT’s groundbreaking artistic work and education programs. I hope you all can make it but if not you can always make a donation to this incredible organization, just give them a call.

I am already looking forward to trying my hand at LIVE instal-storying that evening and if nothing else just sharing with you and insiders look at this incredibly creative event of the year! See you next Saturday!

SPONSORED POST : Thank you to Cleveland Public Theatre who invited me to experience Pandemonium as part of their social outreach. I received tickets in exchange for my social reach. Thanks for supporting this local arts organization, while allowing me to create special content like this for iheartcleveland!

  Taste of the Brown!

TOB Social MediaKit Graphic

I am SOOOO excited to share with you about this years Greater Cleveland Foodbank, Taste of the Browns event coming up on Monday, September 18th! I mean, these pre-season Browns games have really been getting our household in the fall-football-spirit and what could be better than meeting a few players all for a good cause? It’s been a few years since I have attended the fundraiser celebration and I can’t wait to see how the party has grown and evolved.

The two best parts of the event is the ability to mix and mingle with actual Cleveland Browns players as well as alumni AND sampling dishes from some of Cleveland’s best restaurants and chefs. At this years #TasteoftheBrowns on Monday, September 18th, 2017, join Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Joe Thomas, Alumnus Josh Cribbs and event chef Rocco Whalen as they help in the fight against hunger here in Northeast Ohio.

Not only will there be great food & cocktails as well as real live FOOTBALL Players at the party…they always have an awesome silent auction as well. If you are like me, you kinda love the idea of getting a deal at a silent auction all while supporting a great non-profit. Let the bidding begin!

So I hope to see everyone at this exciting fall fundraiser for a great cause. It’s gonna be great…GO BROWNS! GO #TasteoftheBrowns! Now go grab your tickets here before they are all gone!
