  27th Cleveland Clinic Children’s Gala

Screen Shot 2017-05-14 at 10.56.55 PM

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of attending the Cleveland Clinic’s 27th Annual Children’s Gala. The village of doctors, patient advocates, nurses and community had selected my friend Maisie Nowlin, as one of this years two Courage Award recipients.

You see, over the last two years my friends Meg, Ryan and little Maisie have been in and out of Cleveland Children’s with a very rare disease called Aplastic Anemia. She has had one scare after the next, a bone marrow transplant and so many experimental drugs but all in all Maisie kept the faith, was supported by her CLE community and wore her heart on her sleeve. This girl is a fighter and we were there that evening to celebrate her and her entire loving family.

Cleveland Clinic Children’s is dedicated to medical, surgical and rehabilitative care of infants, children and adolescents. The staff uses the latest technology and most recent research to achieve the best possible outcomes. Children’s has more than 300 pediatric specialists who are leaders in research for cardiac care, neurological conditions, digestive diseases and other conditions. More than 80 of their staff are annually named as “Best Doctors” by their peers. Cleveland Clinic Children’s is consistently rated among the “Best Children’s Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report. I could go on and on…but to us, all that really mattered was that they helped our friends when they were at a loss for how to tackle such an ugly disease for their very sick daughter.

I am happy to tell everyone that Maisie is doing well. She currently is a typical tween who is into sparkly shoes, her friends and her brothers and sister. She and her parents accepted this award with grace and humility and we couldn’t have been more proud of them and the team at Cleveland Children’s.

Thank you Dr. Rabi Hanna for hosting us that evening and thank you to your team for pouring your knowledge, heart and soul into the health of our friend Maisie. You make us all want to reach for the stars, to do better, to give more and to really see the love and passion for all people. We know that the research you have conducted in order to impact lives of your patients like Maisie would not be capable without your research grants AND without the generosity of individuals and private donors. We hope that the funds we raised that evening will help impact hundreds of other little seven year old girls like Maisie.

In the spirit of working towards curing each child-patient at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital; I invite you to take time to read more about the exciting happenings (can we say new, kids-only building?!?!) and efforts at Children’s here. If you have would like to donate to furthering the research that Dr Hanna and all of the doctors at the Clinic are conducting we welcome you to make a gift here. We thank you in advance for your generosity.

Hello & Happy Friday friends. What a yucky day, so chilly and wet…Let’s just say it wasn’t the best day for my open-toed, suede booties…brrr! Looks like it supposed to stay around the 50 degree temps pretty much all weekend which means finding activities for the family indoors…enter Cleveland Museum of Art to the rescue.

Not only do they have an incredible area for the kiddo’s, they just opened “Brand-New & Terrific” an exhibit of the work of Alex Katz from the 1950’s. Let’s just say, I am a bit of an art geek and this exhibit might be one of the best I’ve seen in some years.

His work is so totally relatable almost 70 years later. The color combinations are bright and very friendly, you can’t help but smile. I very much enjoyed all of the abstract florals and can even envision them on a skirt or the perfect summer sundress…for the Summer Solstice! I can’t wait to go back to the exhibit and take in more of his work, it is just so cheery. I promise you will love the exhibit and it is going to be the perfect weekend, weather-wise to be indoors. Enjoy & Happy FridYAY!
