  family : Happy Mother’s Day

Hey CLE, It’s FRIDAY! My first full week of work after returning from vacation. It totally flew by but I have to admit, I’m ready for two free days of summer at home. Just a few things, tonight the monthly Tremont Art Walk and it looks to have great weather for it, go check it out. Another thing to note is while Great Gatsy hasn’t gotten totally stellar reviews, it is out and I really want to see it this weekend. Plus, to all the Moms out there, Sunday is YOUR day so whoop it up and enjoy a day with your family or totally just for yourself. Happy Mother’s Day!

Now, onto my friend, “i heart cleveland families” as she offers a few tips from her perspective with regards to the weekend holiday. Happy weekend everybody!

“Hello CLE! What incredible weather we are having! And it looks like Mother’s Day on Sunday will be equally shiny and bright. I want to extend a big shout out to all you fabulous moms! You work hard, and deserve a beautiful day.

Many of my friends prefer going out to brunch or dinner, and after perusing some of the fabulous CLE eateries websites, almost all had a Mother’s Day offering. Some other friends prefer planting flowers on their day and right now the garden centers are bursting with color. Petitti’s Garden Centers never disappoints, and I recently came home from Dean’s Greenhouse in Westlake with this little gem. A succulent arrangement that’s almost impossible to kill :)  MORE! →

Guest Post recipe : Carrot Cake

Every now and then you come across a blogger who makes you smile. Today I get to introduce you to Courtney a fashion student, chef and fellow CLE-lover. I hope you enjoy the recipe she has “whipped” together for you, perfect for Peter Rabbit who might be hopping down your bunny trail for Easter weekend. Thanks Courtney & happy baking weekend to ya!

Hi Friends! My name is Courtney McCrone and I post my musings at 23 Skidoo Blog. I am a Cleveland-lover (what classy lady isn’t?) currently completing my fashion design degree in L.A.; upon graduation this June, and will quickly hustle back to the CLE to live the dream! This summer I will be working on launching some of my designs, so look out world!

Easter is just around the corner, so I am really excited to share a great recipe with you to enjoy with your friends and family–perhaps even some little bunnies that might stop by for brunch!

  family : mall kid “date”

Another great monthly post from my friend and mom extraordinaire, “i heart cleveland families!”

Hello CLE! With a few peeks of springtime weather, the kids and I are ready to get out and be done with the winter hibernation mode. Being inside for long stretches of time makes for lots of “what can I do’s?”….so every once in a while it takes a “date night” with one of the kids to keep them engaged and enjoyable to be around; if you know what I mean.

This past week it was my turn with my oldest, who is 9. Instead of the usual movie I decided on a trip to the LEGO store in Beachwood Place. For some reason, my kids think the mall is way cool probably because taking all three of them there is so daunting to me so we never go. But on this occasion it was a delight. The LEGO store creates that instant spark of creativity and child-like wonder – “you can build that out of legos?” They have hands on stations to create; a few computer stations to play and then walls of Lego “kits” to choose from to take home and build. To my delight, the store also has one whole wall, dedicated to just bricks, of every color and size. You grab a container and fill it with whatever you want, a lá salad bar style and get busy building. Let’s say we went home with a few blocks. MORE! →

family : Goldfish Swim School : giveaway

Today I am thrilled to introduce a longtime friend of mine and new contributor to this blog. She will be posting from time to time on all things fun & different to do with your family in the CLE. Welcome “iheartcleveland families!”

“Hello CLE! I am super excited to be the new iheartcleveland “families” contributor; I’ve been friends with “iheart” for over ten years and am thrilled to be part of this community. When she asked me if I might be interested in rounding out the CLE blog by adding my own family activity and experiences to the mix (I have a 6, 7 and 9 yr. old) I couldn’t resist…

  Emails. Mom-friends. FREE babysitting!

I know a big audience for blogs are the tried and true heros of the world…Mom’s. As a way to connect with “outside world,” to stay up on trends, news, recipes, family stories blogs are a wonderful way to connect with others in Cleveland to the other side of the world.

This blog (iheartcleveland) was actually really inspired by some of my “mom-friends.” You see as many of my friends left the corporate world to raise their families, I took it upon myself to write to them elaborate emails about the happenings of the social scene, making sure they weren’t left out. Fast forward a few months and I heard someone talking about how they had been forwarded “this email about fun things happening around town”…MY EMAILS had been forwarded, I was thrilled!

This email, then turned itself into a blog for not just mom’s but also artists, non-profits, hipsters, tourists, creative like-minded Cleveland cheerleaders and many more. So first and foremost to those of you who forwarded on my emails…thank you.

Now onto the “free” childcare. I have this friend (who was one of those email forwarding mom-friends) who is just delightful and very smart. She and a handful of friends came up with this idea of a babysitting co-op, where you trade points in exchange for a babysitting time.

These ladies of the “co-op” don’t miss a social beat, they are movers and shakers, they attend MANY of the events I write about, never EVER complaining about paying a sitter. Their babysitting co-op allows for my friends to sneak away to a lunchtime yoga class, a few film festival flicks, a wine tasting with the girls or dinner out with their special someone. Check out the nitty gritty details (how it works, starting your own, etc.) about the co-op here from an article the Plain Dealer did on them back in 2007.

It’s 2011 and I can’t believe I have never actually A) thanked all my mom-friends who follow this blog and B) ever taken the opportunity to gush about how creative parenting and babysitting co-ops TOTALLY ROCK! You ladies always amaze me, you should be very proud of yourselves…I’m proud to know great groups like yours exist in Cleveland.
