rockbliss_1Hey friends! How has your 2017 been so far? I know earlier this year we talked about some of my own personal goals and believe it or not, I am still working towards them every day. I gotta say, I manage to get out of my yoga clothes and into real pajamas 2 or 3 days a week…baby steps I tell you.

Rock_Bliss3A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend an evening with my friends from Groundswell and the dazzling duo from Rock Your Bliss during an evening yoga & soul practice at the 78th Street Galleries. I had met Jacki from Rock Your Bliss a few years ago and through the power of social media and she and I have remained in touch. When she and her business partner Mary Beth founded Rock Your Bliss, I knew I wanted to jump on board and follow their practice to a more blissful experience…enter 7 Weeks to Bliss CLE Edition.

  My new weight loss “bestie!”

Thank you Jenny Craig for sponsoring this post. —
Get serious about losing weight with Jenny Craig!

JC_!
(I love all the end-of-the-day treats, this one is a little lemon cake!)

So okay, it’s the beginning of a fresh new year and I’ve set some great goals for myself. (See previous post) We all know the standard “I need to loose a few pounds” types of goals but this is some serious “I need to seriously loose some weight for the sake of my health and for the sake of taking care of my family.” PLUS I LOVE CLOTHES and I have a closet full of fun vintage finds, bold pattern dresses and colorful numbers that I chat with each morning about when we are gonna hang out together…”real soon” I keep telling them.

Before I had our darling toddler, I was able to get to the gym, yoga studio or run outdoors most days. I also spent hours lamenting over healthy meal planning and new recipes which made eating-healthy exciting. Nowadays the evenings are full with negotiating toddler life and all those fun things that go along with it…and let’s face it, my time is now not only MY time. SO, long story short, when I was thinking about how to attack the weight loss battle I knew I needed something super easy, something that I hadn’t tried before, something that could keep my interest and honestly something for someone with little time to invest in meal prep, etc. Enter Jenny Craig…my new personal in-home chef and bestie!

(breakfast scramble & a chocolate protein shake; a great way to start the day!)

So far, so good! This program has been designed to provide a plan to people like me who don’t want to spend hours thinking about a menu but still add interest into my day to day “diet” choices. I have also been checking in with a consultant to approach my potential hurdles, she’s been great, just like a gal pal talking about food, fitness and family life. The program takes a holistic approach to weight loss/management, focusing on food, body and mind. I am actually really enjoying how simple it’s been so far. PLUS the food selections have been right on point, they have over 100 things on their menus created by 40 different chefs to choose from, it’s pretty yummy. Loving the morning chocolate protein shakes, anything Tex-Mex is great, the open-faced sandwiches cure my grilled cheese cravings and evening treats have been a decadent way to end the day…everything has been pretty tasty thus far. I actually am also loving the daily reminders to eat fruits, salads and even my own greek yogurt in addition to the Jenny Craig selections.

Currently I am following their weekly meal plan but in a few weeks I hope to take their thinking and begin adding in my own meals because I actually DO love to cook…and my family enjoys it too.

I’m looking forward to reporting back in the next month or two on this weight loss goals. Exciting! So, to all of you who might be looking for a very simple, follow-the-leader type of weight loss approach…I am happy to share the details, just drop me a note! (Plus I have a coupon for $25 off, so just ask!)

Results not typical. Members following the Jenny Craig program, on average, lose 1-2 lbs. per week. I received promotional consideration.

  a CLE summer guide!

It’s always fun to make those summer to-do lists and challenge ourselves to check things off one at a time. Between hanging out at the beach, afternoons at the pool, if you have a friend who has a boat that is a plus and then there are cookouts, late night ice cream adventures and summer fun 5k runs you can always find exciting happenings around Cleveland, especially in the summer!

I tried my best to compile a few of my recent go-to’s for dinner, drinks and summer fun below. Take a look, check them out, let me know what I am missing on this Cleveland summer guide. Enjoy & happy summer everyone!

• TO DINE & DRINK •

PLum_6

The Plum Kitchen & Bar : This new watering dining (& drinking!) destination is so pretty that from the moment you walk into the space you feel like you have traveled around the globe and discovered a hidden gem…right here in our backyard. The creative cocktails and family style meals will have you wanting to go back time and time again, so grab your friends and check out the plum. Try and get a seat on the pink bench or the patio, both my favorite spots.

Ninja City : I love this east-side, hot spot for asian-fusion carry out and a swanky cocktail while I wait for my order to be ready! I always order a sampling of their steamed buns and a fun mojito-like summer cocktail. If you like a fresh green-papaya salad, chili garlic wings or Bahn Mi Sandwich, give the team at Ninja City a visit.

Pier W : If you are looking for an incredible, fine dining experience and perhaps the best view of Cleveland and Lake Erie grab an adirondack chair on the deck of Pier W. During happy hour you can sit in the sun while enjoying a summer cocktail (Moscow Mule anyone?) and a few fresh oysters.

Banter Cleveland  : If you love a good french fry, have you tried poutine yet? The perfect combination of fries, gravy and a touch of sweet. I admire the simple chic interiors of this hot spot and even better I love that they have a little store inside where you can bring home a bottle of Rosé or beer for your porch parties. I also enjoy sitting at their bar and indulging in a summer drink after a day at Edgewater Beach…I especially love a good dark ‘n stormy! Banter makes theirs with Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer and I love when I order a drink and it is not all watered down with ginger ale. Crabbie’s comes to the CLE from Edinburgh, Scotland. They steep real ginger for over 6 weeks before blending it with the other 4 secret ingredients in order for us to enjoy the first “hard soda” on the market. Give it a try next time you are at Banter!

Spice Kitchen & Bar : Chef Bebenroth and his team of farm to table experts make visiting Spice a memorable experience. The recently just expanded behind the restaurant to include a wonderful patio and bar area for your summer celebrations. Clusters of outdoor couches, a great hardwood bar and lots of herbs and potted plants has this outdoor space one of my go-to places for meeting up with friends this summer. Plus, their bartenders mix an incredible drink…ask them for something with ginger beer or whiskey in it and they will produce a unique flavor that will have you wanting to return to Spice to see what they will come up with next!

Pub Frato : in the mood for a day trip to the Mentor Headlands or Fairport Harbor? While you are there, go check out this authentic gastrobub for awesome cocktails, great cold beers and don’t miss their truffle fries!!! (They are also participating in Crabbie’s Week so ask for their special RNC Red Cocktail…more at the end of this post)

• THINGS TO DO •

41 Degrees North : In the summertime I love to get outdoors and enjoy our incredible weather and water. No boat? No problems. You can visit the crew at 41 Degrees North (at the Yack Shack) nested in the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation for all sorts of Kayak and stand up paddle board rental needs. The team will get you outfitted for a morning on the river or the lake depending on your confidence level and I’m telling you, it is one of the best summer experiences around. Truly makes living close to such a Great Lake accessible and is a wonderful activity for a group of friends or family to enjoy summertime outdoors together.

Kendell Ledges in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park : If you are looking to escape the city and get outdoors for a morning, head south to my ultimate favorite outdoor hiking spot around town, the Kendell Ledges. These massive rock formations were created millions of years ago and span over 2 miles long and about 30 feet high. Covered in a vibrant green moss, these rock walls make you feel like you have stepped onto a set of Jurassic Park, they are just incredible. This shaded park would make for a wonderful weekend destination for a picnic with your pals. If you’ve lived here all your life or just visiting for the weekend, seriously, go explore Kendell Ledges, I promise you are in for a treat.

The Westside Market : This market has been featured all over the place, but it truly is one of Cleveland’s most cherished community hot spots, food shopping mecca’s and an architectural gem. If you are visiting this summer make sure to stop at Cleveland’s public oldest market home to 100 vendors offering meats, seafood, fruits, vegetables, baked goods, dairy, flowers, ready-to-eat foods, spices and nuts….plus while you are there grab a crepe or a polish sausage sandwich, you won’t leave hungry!

The Cleveland Museum of Art : Celebrating their 100th year, this global art institution is one of my ultimate favorite places to take my family and out of town guests to visit time and time again. The museum is FREE and open to the public and the most recent renovations have guests still stopping to stare…you can’t miss the incredible new atrium. While you are enjoying art, you can also stop for a snack…or a cocktail at their restaurant Provenance. Take a moment and enjoy the Contemporary Art Collection the museum has, I can’t get enough of the big Marilyn Monroe, Warhol piece.

Tremont : This little pocket of Cleveland has incredible shopping and boutiques like Banyan Tree and Evie Lou. Plus it is home to incredible bars and restaurants. If you are visiting Cleveland, make sure to include a few hours to explore this neighborhood and the many churches and interesting architectural masterpieces. I love walking around here on a friday night before we decide on what the weekend has in store for us…especially on the second Friday of the month where they host, Walk About Tremont…check it out!

The Cleveland Flea : This monthly flea martket of over 100 vendors is a must-do during the summer in Cleveland. Filled with many makers and vintage enthusiasts, this show is seriously and incredible vshopping destination in our city. Don’t miss the next “FLEA” Saturday, August 13th. See you there!

While the RNC is in town they have partnered up with a few local watering holes to celebrate good cocktails and politics and are serving up “The “RED DRINK” Cocktail. This drink is simple and sounds super yummy…1 1/4oz vanilla vodka, 3/4 oz lemon juice, shake and pour with ice, Fill the rest with Crabbies Raspberry! If you don’t feel like making your own at home, you can visit Shinto (in Strongsville) to have their bartenders mix one up! Want to pick up a 4-pack of Crabbie’s visit Zagara’s (In Cleveland Heights,) Cap & Corks (in Lakewood) and many of the Giant Eagle Locations around town.

Fit2Fly with AirMall at Cleveland Hopkins Airport

IMG_3663

So where is everyone off too this summer? Summer road trips? Weekends with friends? Long European vacations? Summer is always filled with so many possibilities, currently I ave a very bad case of wanderlust..trying to squeeze in a bit of fun here or there.

Today I want to share with you about a great promotion that AirMall of Cleveland Hopkins Airport kicked off last week to celebrate summer travel. Fit2Fly was a weeklong event filled with many wellness initiatives making travelers aware of the opportunities within the airport to stay well and healthy during the summer flying season.

IMG_3666

From allowing a few extra minutes for a exclusive chair massage, to packing your own water bottle and getting extra hydrated in flight to the taking time for in-travel fitness…concourse yoga. The team at AirMall were thrilled to make #CLEGoingPlaces travelers aware of all their great summer #fit2fly offerings.

IMG_3661

For the afternoon kick off I rolled out my yoga mat and got bendy with the yogis from Soul Stretch Mobile Yoga and the AirMall team..along with many travelers. It was fun to hear all about everyones adventures and their relationship with their own yoga practice. From “I haven’t stretched in month” to the woman who stopped by and busted out a handstand…so many people have a relationship with yoga, it was really cool.

Thank you to the team at AirMall for hosting this #Fit2Fly awareness event. I will for sure be more open to stretching and practicing my yoga practice between flights because of you. Happy traveling and happy summer vacation everyone!

SPONSORED POST : I was invited spend the afternoon with the Fit2Fly team at the Cleveland Hopkins Airport and provided a gift certificate to AirMall as part of their social engagements efforts. Thanks for supporting the business that promotes travel wellness while allowing me to create special content like this for iheartcleveland!

  Pilates at Be Studios

Be_1

So…it’s not everyday that I share a pic of me all sweaty and stinky, in weird poses, feeling very vulnerable…but here goes nothing.

Are you familiar with the boutique spa and fitness center on Clifton Blvd called Be Studios? OMG…if you aren’t you should be, it’s a gem of a fitness & wellness destination. The other day I met up with owner and pilates instructor Christina Anderson of Be Studios for her to walk me, step by step through a typical Pilates class series.

Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. You have to concentrate on what you’re doing all the time. And you must concentrate on your entire body for smooth movements. This was not easy, but in Pilates the way that exercises are done is more important than the exercises themselves.

Be_3

Christina guided me through a basic footwork series, then we worked on legs, abs and lastly arms. To say it was a challenging workout is an understatement! While I had little expectations as to what Pilates was or how hard it would be…it sure did give me a run for my money… and I LOVED it!!!

Pilates at Be Studios is offered most days  and at a few time slots. The classes are kept small (I believe the max is 6 students) so you receive a lot of teacher/student attention as you glide up and down on your reformer machine. It seriously was a game changer with regards to a strength training experience. I can’t wait to go back.

13077110_10207766374290061_1275118048_n

Pricing for classes runs somewhere between $20 for an individual drop-in class all the way to $300 for a 20 class package. However for a limited time, if you want to swing by and take a lesson, they are currently offering half off to all new iheartcleveland students at $10 a class. Want to go check it out? I promise you won’t regret it. Can we even talk how I was sore for almost 3 days post-workout? The best kind of sore that is, but honestly it was such a nice feeling to feel muscles engaged that might not have been otherwise.

So give it a try…if I can do it you can too. Pilates…it’s sorta amazing!
Be Studios is located on Clifton Blvd at 10400 Clifton Boulevard, Cleveland, OH 44102
