  Pier W : Wine Dinner, April 12

Screen Shot 2016-04-01 at 9.33.31 AM

Happy Friday everyone! It is gorgeous outside today…hard to believe they are calling for chilly temps this weekend. So many fun happening around town these next few weeks don’t you think? I feel like when spring hits everyone comes out of hibernation and people want to get back to socializing.

With that said, why not grab a bunch of your gal pals and head over to Pier W on Tuesday, April 12th for the Annual Tour of Oregon Wine dinner. Pier W, the iconic Cleveland waterfront restaurant (that looks like a boat!) will host this multiple course dinner, paired with various Willamette Valley vineyard wines.

“The Willamette Valley is best known for the earthy undertones and mineral qualities in the soil and conveyed in the wines,” comments Stevoff (Pier W’s wine director). “Similar in latitude to Burgundy (France!), the Oregon pinot region produces some of the most exquisite flavors. I’m looking forward to walking guests through the nuances of the Pacific Northwest set against Chef Reik’s culinary creations in an intimate but approachable learning experience.”

Personally….I am especially looking forward to the dessert course of lemon cheesecake paired with a late harvest reisling…delicious!

And while I am talking about Pier W…if you are a runner…or want to be, you have plenty of time to train for their annual Copper River Salmon Run 5k run/walk, Saturday May 21st with proceeds to benefit Cleveland charity Malachi House. This is one of my favorite races because not only is it a great route through Lakewood, but you also get lunch post-race on their patio. Who want to run with me?

So like I said, grab your friends and reserve your spot for the upcoming wine dinner on April 12th…I’ll plan to see you there.

SPONSORED POST : I was invited to attend the Pier W wine dinner as part of their social engagements efforts. Thanks for supporting this restaurant as they bring in incredible wine (and lots of great seafood) to our city and allow me to create special content like this for iheartcleveland!

  Miles for Maisie!

Happy Tuesday friends! I hope your Halloween weekends were filled with many tricks and treats…mostly treats. Me & Mr. C enjoyed dressing up Baby Ninja and watching him devour his first taste into the world of candy…a mini twix bar. Anyhow the weekend was filled with family fun, hope you had a good one too.

Today I want to use this social space to tell the story of my friend Maisie and invite you to a super fun fundraiser for her family this Friday night.

Maisie is a 6 year old that lives in Lakewood, attends Lakewood Catholic Academy, loves princesses and her four other siblings and is the daughter of my friends Megan and Ryan. Maisie was recently diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia which is a super scary and very rare blood disease. Our dear little Maisie is in need of bone marrow transplant and so her family and friends have been raising awareness for “Be the” all the while getting volunteers to take the swab test to see if anyone is a close match for little Maisie.

This past weekend over fifteen hundred people gathered at Lakewood Park to celebrate Maisie and her family through a costume parade and treat trail. It seriously was the most moving fundraiser I have ever been to. So many children, so many happy faces, such a feeling of joy and hope, we were all there for our friends and their little lady.

Please join us this Friday night, November 6th from 6-7pm at Psycle (in Westlake) as we ride together for this little friend and her family. The class is a donation ride but we would love it if you could sign up in advance to accommodate for all of our riders who want to participate. Who knows, if we have enough riders we might just convince our instructor to open up another hour class! All funds will go to the family in order to help covers all expenses they may have during these times.

At Friday’s ride there will also be take home kits for anyone who wants to be tested to see if they match Maisie. There will also be t-shirts and bracelets on hand for sale.

I look forward to seeing everyone for a good ride, make sure and wear your maroon…#MaroonforMaisie. We love you guys and are keeping you in our hearts and prayers.

  CLE ski

Happy snowy Monday to you! I am back from Alt Summit and revived, inspired and even more enthusiastic about all that we have going on in the CLE!

I spoke with many individuals, some from San Fran a few from the big apple and honestly everyone said something to the effect of “I hear there is great stuff happening in Cleveland.” “There is!” I would rejoice and then dive into my schpeal about how they should visit, how we have so much happening, how the restaurants are delicious and the Lake is divine. I think I will have a few visitors this summer and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

Now that I am home and spent yesterday putting away all of our holiday decorations (I know…super late!) I am ready to spend the next few weekends, embracing winter on the slopes. I didn’t get to ski last year due to the impending Ninja Max so this year I want to soak it all in and enjoy playing in the snow.

Just a quick rundown on the various ski resorts that you could visit…

Boston Mills Brandywine : A quick drive south to this ski destination duo, with two different slopes there is plenty of winter fun for the whole family. From “an evening with the dudes” to “college night” to “ladies late night” there is an event for everyone and the perfect excuse to round up your friends for winter fun outdoors.

Peek ‘n Peak : Just across the NY boarder this ski resort offers amazing snow fun. In fact January is learn to ski/board month and the are offering buy one get one packages for all newbies on the slopes. Along with the great snow Peek’n Peak also has an adorable ski chalet hotel, sunken bar for aprés and an Aveda spa to soothe your sore muscles. While it’s the perfect overnight escape you can also make this destination a day trip if you and your friends are willing to make the road trip together.

Holiday Valley : Nestled in the charming village of Ellicotville NY this ski resort has winter fun for the whole family. From the kids learn to ski school to the many lodging and dining options, this winter resort includes all sorts of fun for all. From an early morning run on the slopes to an evening stroll in the village, when visiting this ski town you’ll feel like you are out west.

Snowtrails : While I haven’t visited this southern ski destination I do know many families that have and love it. Great for families with lots of beginner slopes this winter play destination can be bundled with a trip to Columbus…and we all know how much I love a good Columbus road trip! Perhaps it’s time I go check it out.

So enjoy this recent snowfall, unpack your ski pants and plan a weekend ski bunny outing soon! If we live in here, we might as well embrace the winter weather and get outdoors for some fresh air and winter play.

Happy Monday everybody. Glad to be home with you all.
