Good Monday morning to you CLE! Sorry to be MIA for a few days as I took last week off to holiday in the Hawaian Islands with family and friends. It was like nothing I have ever experienced before, surf lessons, lots of tropical drinks, hula, beach, hiking, sun, super fine sand, turtles, tiki, morimoto, early to bed, early to rise, lagoons and lots of hot sun! It was a tropical paradise.

Upon my return, I noted my westside lawn had grown a foot, the trees were all a bloom and so many Clevelanders were out and about on bikes, nestled in convertibles and enjoying the warm temps! It was like I had brought tropical paradise back in my carry on.

It was great to get away, to make time to think creatively, to dream, to plan new initiativites, to laugh a ton, to get tan (even with my 50SPF everywhere, my italian genes never disappoint) to try new food and to give yourself  new perspective on home and your day to day. Do you have any getaways planned for summer? A weekend camping trip? A long weekend at our “islands?” Perhaps a day trip down south to explore Amish country? Pencil in a weekend or two, grab your friends and make sure to schedule some time to see things from a different perspective, I promise it to be a good time!

A few things I didn’t touch base on while I was away…@melissahigey from yarnovercleveland was the winner of the @GVartwork t-shirt. Congrats Melissa!

Another thing to note is that tickets to this years Cleveland Museum of Art, Summer Solstice event goes on sale TODAY, Monday May 6th. Don’t miss out, grab your tickets today!

And last but certainly not least…to celebrate yesterday’s Cinco De Mayo, the new Lakewood location of Barrio opened! more tacos in Lakewood, get pyched!  Also, don’t know if they still have any on the shelves, but I heard that the chocolate covered tortilla chips by Malley’s and Momocho’s was a big hit. Check them out.

  The Cleveland Hostel

Happy September Cleveland. I hope everyone is rested and relaxed returning to biz after a three day weekend.

Recently I have been out of town a bunch; for work and for pleasure. However, with that said, I wanted to celebrate Labor Day Weekend in proper fashion and so we proclaimed the weekend a true “staycation!” And so the story begins….

We decided to pack our backpacks and hop on our bikes for an overnight in Ohio City at the newly opened Cleveland Hostel. We had made reservations to meet up with our friends at Market Garden for a yummy clambake. We ran into friends with antiques and airstreams and perhaps a sailor or two. We then finished the evening with bubbles and a bachelorette on the last stop of the evening before making our way back to our hostel home; and let me just say it was delightful!!!

We had checked in earlier in the afternoon (check in opens at 3pm) to throw down our back packs and explore a bit. We were welcomed with fresh towels and a friendly smile. The hallways were clean and bright and our room was really sweet. We stayed in one of their single rooms but they also offer shared rooms for a rate of as low as $25 per night.

The new hostel has an amazing rooftop patio with a killer view of the city; perfect for Airshow viewing. It also has a great room with a large commercial kitchen, dining room and lounge living room area. Plus, it has a free bike lock up area and free wifi; what more could you want?

In the morning we woke to the sound of rain on the window and I think we may have thought riding our bikes was good in theory, but perhaps our car would have been just as good. We made our way down to the lobby, bought a t-shirt to remember the night “away” and just as we were unlocking our bikes, the skies parted and the sun (& humidity) came out.

With a stop for coffee and breakfast crepes  at La Petite Triangle our staycation was complete.

If you have family coming in for the holidays, if you are planning your next reunion or if you are just looking for a sweet “staycation” I advise you check out The Cleveland Hostel, a modern American twist on hosteling!

  merry & happy to you!

Hello Clevelanders!

I am taking a few holiday days off to visit with family and friends but I wanted to make sure to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and happy new year. Enjoy your time off with friends, eat lots of cookies, sip some nog and get lots of rest.
