  Valentines Gifts + GIVEAWAY!

giveaway

Hello CLE friends! How is your week been? I can’t believe it is February already! Don’t you just love the start of a new month? I love how it gives us a clean calendar, a sense of a fresh start, the ability to set new goals and start again. When February rolls around, it is a good time to check back in on the goals we set in January. Are you working towards those new goals? Have you already forgotten about them? Come back, revisit, start again….and if all else fails there is always Valentines Day candy!!!

I LOVE, heart, ADORE February. I love celebrating those I love, my man, our toddler, my sisters, gal pals, design team and more, Valentines Day is always one I love to make special. We don’t have exact plans for the holiday yet, but I am sure there will be pretty flowers and some yummy chocolate involved. We typically don’t go to dinner on cupids holiday, opting instead for a movie and cocktails or something like that instead…what are your plans for the “lovely” holiday?

If you are looking for a gift for someone you care about I have assembled a few recommendations from local Cleveland businesses. (Plus read though this post because there is a killer giveaway below!)

A new spa in Gordon Square; REVIVE SPA is an intimate, skin-wellness destination. Located within the arcade (behind Honeycomb Salon), this new spa offers various massages, the best facials…and even couple massages! I love the owner Chrissy, and I swear she is one of the best in town. Give her a shout, let her know we sent you and she will take 10% off on your gift certificates for your honey…mention promo code iheartcle.

For all your stylish friends, BOMBAY TAXI has an incredible selection of unique earnings and many other indian-inspired accessories that would make awesome Valentines Day gifts. I love these graphic, gold square earnings…they go with everything making them a go-to for an everyday luxury fix. For these and other pieces make sure to shop the site and place your orders by February 7th.

Does your bestie have a sweet tooth like mine? If so, a Valentines Day cookie bundle from KELSEY ELIZABETH CAKES would be a “sweet” holiday gift! Kelsey and her team have a special holiday sweet treat menu available on their website, go take a look and place your orders today! trust me, you can’t go wrong with a gift from one of Cleveland’s best bakeries around. PLUS they now have a Rocky River location, it seriously is adorable. Go swing by, say hi, grab a cookie and wish them “Happy hearts Day” from me.

If your lady friend has incredible style and outstanding taste, a hand crafted, leather bag from local designer BLAIR RITCHEY would be an amazing surprise. I have a few “Blair bags” and I can honestly say, they are seriously my favorite. The leather is so soft, their silhouettes striking and her sense of color is just perfect for these drab Ohio days. Isn’t this Pak Mini in the two-tone snake skin killer? It would go really well with a hot pink dress I have…perfect for a night out on the town with my girlfriends…I might just have to buy it.

Lastly, when all the holiday indulging is over and you want to revisit your resolutions, pick up this bright, happy Swell water bottle from LOVELY PAPERIE & GIFTS.   How I do the CLE Int FILM FEST!

ffHey CLE! How has your week been? I think the spring-weather-gods are shining down on us, its so wonderful not to have to wear ten layers to get out the door in the morning. I heart SPRING in the 216, everyone seems lighter, brighter and overall more kind to one another when the weather turns from cold to mild….and then the FILM FEST rolls into town and makes everything better!!!

Have you picked up your film program and planned your Cleveland International Film Festival experience yet? I am counting the days till the excitement rolls into town.  Every year, my mom comes for a visit and we binge watch a handful of films that I select for us. I try and pick a documentary, an “artsy” film, something from France and when available a light, romantic comedy.

This year I have selected a handful of good ones including one I am especially excited about…The Wolfpack. It’s a documentary about a family of six adult children who live in New York City but have no interaction with society thanks to their “alpha male” father. Instead, they learn how the world exists through thousands of movies they watch and creatively reenact at home. It really looks to be both bizarre and wonderful all rolled into one incredible movie. What movies are you excited about?

When I am headed down to Terminal Tower for a few solid hours of film fest, I have specific “must have’s” that I bring with me. I bring a stylish tote bag like the Curtin Tote designed and produced locally by Blair Ritchey. I fill it with the typical toiletries including tissues for those emotional flicks, lip balm for when the theaters are dry and a hand sanititzer for all the RTA yucky-ness. I highly advise bringing a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated and to deter you from filling up on theatre soda. I also like to bring a healthy snack such as an apple for between movie munchies. If you are feeling indulgent a Lilly’s of Tremont chocolate bar and a small can of Sofia champagne in a can is also a film fest treat.

I like to wear slip on shoes; stylish sneakers or flats work well for getting comfy during the movies. Dress in layers as sometimes the theaters are a bit chilly or a little hot…it always helps to have options.

Sometimes between movies I like to slip away to the Ritz Carlton Cleveland or a drink at their Lobby Bar on Six. They typically offer film fest drink specials and even a few movie-themed cocktails, plus you never know what actor or filmmaker you might spot hanging out between films.

Give yourself enough time to park and get in line for your movie, I like to estimate arriving almost 30-40 before my films begin. You can always meet fellow film goers, explore the festivals silent auction or shop the always-creative film gift shop.

The film fest kick off next week. If you haven’t purchased tickets remember to go online and choose a few movies before films sell out. Happy film fest everyone, I look forward to seeing you at the movies!

  Headed to Alt Summit!

wearAlt

Good morning my Cleveland friends! Hope your week has been wonderful, exciting and filled with fun. It’s Wednesday and I couldn’t be more thrilled to head off to Hopkins and jump on over to Salt Lake City to attend this years Alt Summit Conference.

This gathering of predominantly women-owned business owners, makers and bloggers makes my heart skip a beat. As a small business owner and designer I often seek out learning opportunities to better myself, to fill my creative energy pot and to be constantly inspired. I can’t think of a better conference to attend that “Alt.” While I will be learning about better photography tricks (god knows I can improve), ways use video in my work, partnering with others and other creative topics, one thing that I love about this event is the fashion. I mean, the attendees go over-the-top with regards to style, for me it’s like visual crack.

As a new Mom I too am looking forward to dressing pretty (sans spit up) and layering the accessories one workshop to the next. I have way overpacked…seven pairs of shoes for just a  few days…but feel pretty good about my picks. I mean, for these types of all day long learning events you want to be stylish AND comfortable am I right?

I am bringing (1) a new Boden dress I got for my birthday. The bright bold bird print is playful and makes me smile, plus I don’t often wear blue but I am pretty confident in the bold hue. My shoes for this dress are super old Payless Christian Siriano purply-blue suede booties…it pays to be a bit of a shoe hoarder. I am bringing my pink Kate Spade clutch as an added pop of bold color for this outfit. For travel and casual creative chat (2) I’m gonna rock at CLE Clothing Company sweatshirt declaring my love for our city…seriously I’m loving this comfy sweatshirt, everything they make is so fun and represents our city so well. As I loose all this baby weight I am rocking some Denizen Jeans from Target, they look so polished and fancy yet they are affordable during this time of transition, I would highly recommend you check them out. I’m going to be toting all my conference materials and my computer around in my new Blair Ritchey tote. Gotta love spreading the word about a lovely Cleveland-based designer who has the talent to produce such luxurious leather goods, I love this bag. Lastly (3) I am packing lots of pink and polka dots including this overcoat by Kate Spade and these pink pixie pants also from Target, a mix of high end and everyday for this traveler makes me happy.

This will be my second time attending the conference and I am looking forward to grabbing coffee with style maven Hillary, talking retail and kids with Kim, discussing design with Chicago designer MJ, and being inspired by all things DIY with Andrea. It is a time to set goals for the year, to engage with other like-minded attendees and I’d be lying if I wasn’t pretty excited to get a few nights of solid sleep.

Have a great rest of your week. Follow along in my Alt experience on instagram @charity216. Cheerio!
