  Love is in the air!

Max(Couldn’t help but post this little pic of Baby Ninja trying to get into my desk when I wasn’t looking. He is my best Valentine this year for sure…well of course him and Mr. C.)

Here at iheartcleveland it’s the week for celebrating LOVE! Love of our city, love of our friends, love of our lake, love of all the amazing foodie hot spots around town, love of all the awesome arts & culture destinations. Today I wanted to put together a few fun things I am loving and happenings that are going on around town in the celebration of this weeks Valentine’s holiday.

EATING OUT : I know we all love to go out to dinner from time to time, and while I am not a big fan of actually heading out to dinner on February 14th, I’m not opposed to celebrating at anytime from now till early net week. Here are a few holiday hot spots I may try and hit up.
Urban Farmer, has a great brunch and incredible morning cocktails, this Sunday make your reservation as they are hosting a Valentine’s Buffet brunch complete with a toast bar (chocolate chip banana bread!) omelet stations and locally cured morning meats, yummy!
Punch Bowl Social : Where can you go for bowling, a dash of ping pong and an awesome romantic dinner for you and your bestie? Punch Bowl Social CLE!!! Make a reservation and start planning your visit to include the “Loves Me; Loves Me Not” adult punch (bourbon, lemon juice & maraschino cherries) a few bacon wrapped dates, steak & gruyere potato pancakes and mini tiramisu shots. Sign me up! (if you already have hearts day plans, “kids bowl free” on President’s Day, so you could always go on Monday?)
Sarita in Lakewood : Have you checked out the new Sarita’s in Lakewood (Old Players on Madison)? Chef Tony Romano and his team have a very special dinner planned for all you love birds out there…complete with chocolate dipped strawberries. Visit their new site for the complete menu and make sure to call for your reservation, it will for sure book up fast.

Happenings : There are so many great things happening around town to woo your honey’s heart with. Here is a short list of a few exciting weekend happenings.
• “I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”
David Bowie Memorial Show at the Beachland Ballroom this Friday night! Bring your main squeeze for some Bowie tunes performed by many of the areas best musicians.
• Yoga & Chocolate : At Krysia Energy Yoga on Center Ridge Road in Westlake. Gather your fellow yoga loving friends and enjoy some sweet time on your mat. After your practice indulge in a few handmade chocolates from Tremont’s Lilly Chocolates!
Face Value by Bob Dylan : I know we think of Bob Dylan as a musician but did you know he painted portraits of people while on tour? Or that he loved to weld artistic gates? This international exhibit of Dylan’s work has been curated by the National Portrait Gallery and has recently found a home at Kent State University. Wouldn’t an afternoon in an art gallery be a magical Valentine’s Day date? Bring your sweetie to see the show which runs now through March 5th.
Galentines Party at ReDress – Grab your girly friends and head over to hang with Rachel and her team at ReDress in Lakewood. While you are browsing the fashions and awesome jewels get your hair braided (braid crowns!!!) your makeup done, a mini massage and lots of sweet treats and cocktails while you enjoy tunes by DJ Genna Petrolla!
Art with your family : Sunday is family fun day at the Cleveland Museum of Art. That means free art projects with your littlest Valentines’. Activities begin at 11, its a wonderful place to bring your pack for some good hands-on art fun, promise.

Whatever you do with your friends and family during this season for celebrating love, have fun & stay warm Cleveland. Happy Valentines Day to you!

  Painting the Modern Garden

Hey CLE friends. Another great fall week in the 216 and another stunning exhibit by the talented team at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Painting the Modern Garden : Monet to Matisse is now open to the public…and you’ve got to see it.

It’s not everyday that an exhibit can bring you to tears but I promise this one just might. Room after room filled with paintings one after another filled with gorgeous examples of work representative of the artists gardens, travels and creative adventures.

IMG_5517IMG_5524IMG_5528From the realist work of Claude Monet (Chrysanthemums featured above) to the more abstract work of Picasso there is something for every art lover taste.

The exhibit will be at the museum now through early January and you really should make a date to see it not once, but a handful of times. One of my favorite part of the exhibit was learning about each artists and how their gardens played such an important role in their work…it’s always great to see where inspiration comes from.

IMG_5533IMG_5544Thank you to the staff at the museum for extending the invitation to me to attend the opening  and preview the exhibit in order to share some images and my thoughts with you. Honestly it’s not everyday that A) I get an evening away from my young family B) I am moved so whole heartily from an art exhibit and C)  that I strongly urge you not to miss this show, it’s really amazing.

Happy art, happy gorgeous paintings to you!

15 Ways to Play at the CMA

Happy Tuesday to you. It’s so nice to know the temps are warming up and we are supposed to have a lovely Easter weekend…perfect for your kiddos egg hunts! With this said, we all know April brings showers and what more perfect place to stay out of the rain with your family than the Cleveland Art Museum.

Recently (at my day job) we had the pleasure of creating this very playful graphic to depict top 15 Ways to Play at the CMA showcasing many of the family events for you, your family and friends. Go ahead and print it out, post it on your fridge, PIN IT, share it, make plans with your friends to meet up in the atrium for some free fun at the art museum.

Spring showers are here and what better excuse to get out of the rain than a family visit to the Cleveland Museum of Art. See you there real soon…rocking some cute wellies and a fabulous trench coat. :)

  Winter weekend fun!

Happy Friday everyone! It’s a cold one out there don’t you think? I mean when the windows of your home are frosting on the inside then you KNOW it’s a cold one. Yikes!

While it may be a chilly out, there are so many weekend activities that will keep us warm you should for sure check out some of these highlights.

Cleveland artist, Erin Guido is hosting a one-woman opening at Urban Orchid tonight. Her work is filled with bright, colorful sayings made from both cut paper and paint.  Inspired by the city around her, Erin also works full time at LAND Studio. Erin’s art is so fresh and playful, you’ll love her and want to buy up all of her prints to hang in your winter homes!

Feel like busting a move on the dance floor to shake off the “winter chillies?” Hit up the February MIX at the Cleveland Museum of Art as they host a funky dance party featuring our own, Cleveland DJ, DJ Mazi Jahi. Tonight from 5-9pm. Tickets are $10, cash bar.

Cleveland Valentines Bazaar. Looking for a sweet locally made gift for your Valentine? Look no further than the show and sale this Saturday. From 10am to 4pm stop into there Lakewood Masonic Temple to meet the makers behind some exquisite gifts for your honey.

There is a new gallery show in town, opening this Saturday at the Transformer Station. Process and Abstraction opens to the public Saturday evening at 7pm. This museum is by far my favorite little arts gem tucked into the Hingetown neighborhood, it is just too cool. I highly recommend checking it out!

Speaking of Hingetown, Sunday night they are hosting the first Hingetown Hygge (pronounced HYU-gah). Dress warm and head outdoors for a bon fire, some music and campfire stories with friends. Get outside and embrace the winter chill. 5-8pm, 1455 W 29th, Cleveland OH 44113

Cleveland Cavs : There is a game tonight and one Sunday. With their recent winning streak the energy is contagious…you’ve got to watch. Check it out!

So there really is a lot of fun happening around town this weekend. Get out and make winter awesome everyone! Cheers Cleveland.

  the new Spotted Owl

Happy Monday everyone. Hope you had great November weekends. Ours was pretty nice, quiet but nice. Friday we went to an awesome house party filled with a lot of great Cleveland personalities, Saturday I hit up Harness Cycle for a challenging ride then headed into my studio to get a jump on the week. The rest of the day we stayed in to hang with Baby Ninja, do a bit of housework and other grown up things (can we say “make a budget?”) Sunday I went to the Art Museum to see the film Advance Style which was awesome, hit up Crocker Park for a weeks worth of Trader Joe’s and a bit of Baby Gap! All in all a great Northeast Ohio weekend.

Last week my Mom visited us to hang out with her Grandson “Baby Ninja” and help us out a few days with childcare. It was awesome having her around the house. I wish we had family that lived closer…for those of you that DO…make sure they know how thankful you are for them. One of the best perks of having “Nanna” visit is that Mr. C and I got to go out, sitter-free on a school night. Super fun!

We decided to explore the relatively new Spotted Owl nestled in the neighborhood of Tremont. The bar feels like you’ve transported yourself to an adorable British pub, every detail so perfect. The wood bar, counters and furniture seems like it has been there for a very long time while from what I can gather it is all new construction. The stained glass windows that were made for the space, seem like they were rescued from an old ministry. The wallpaper, bar menu’s and glassware, every detail was accounted for…seriously lovely.

For my evening pick, I chose a “You Guys are Indian, Right?” a bit of a traditional Manhattan  with a touch a citrus. It was so delicious, I am still sorta craving another one now.

Next time you get a “free” school night out I would totally advise you to pop into Spotted Owl, pull a stool up to the bar and explore their extensive drink menu. You won’t be disappointed.
