A family visit to the Cleveland Zoo

Happy Friday everybody. TGIF right? We had such a busy week, I am looking forward to a quiet weekend at home with my boys. Do you guys have big plans? Summer weekends are the best!

Last weekend we signed ourselves up for a fmialy membership at the Cleveland Zoo and boy was it a blast. Baby Ninja loved watching the elephants give themselves dust baths, he enjoyed a bit of a stare down with a baboon and I couldn’t take my eyes off the elegant and trés chic flamingos.

I hadn’t been to the zoo in such a long time. Honestly the last time I think I can remember going to explore and play with the animals was during a Twilight at the Zoo event back in 1999. As a new parent, it was a great place to get out, do some walking, enjoy the birds and beasts and let’s not forget the people watching…incredible!

Looking for something to do with your family this weekend? Don’t forget how cool the zoo can be. You’ll probably see us there from time to time and it might just be our new family hangout.

  Summer in the CLE!

Hello CLE! How was your weekend everyone? While it called for rained it ended up being pretty nice weather. We took Baby Ninja to Huntington Beach for a little bit as well as a few stroller walks, a first birthday, dinner with friends and even a trip to the park!

Today I just wanted to call out a few fun, not-to-miss things happening in the city this summer. Gather up some of your friends and make sure to put a few of these in your summer calendars.

Wade Oval Wednesdays  :  Music. Food. Dancing. Spend your Wednesday evening with other CLE families and friends, bring your blankets, pack your picnics and settle in for an evening of free fun. I am especially looking forward to Carlos Jones & The Plus Band, performing July 1st..get your reggae on!

Edgewater Live : Yoga, food trucks and live bands on the beach, another perfect evening in the 216. Every Thursday through August 14th join your friends and enjoy one of the best beaches our city has to offer. Thanks to InnerBliss Yoga for leading a :30 minute practice to kick off the party and to the Cleveland metro parks for utilizing the beach in a new way! We love it!

The Flea Sunday Market : While I adore the Cleveland Flea; their baby-sister the Sunday Market is my favorite! The frenchie-themed morning is like a flea you might as you wander down the streets of france. Music, antiques, macaroons, oysters and champagne, makes for the best Sunday morning EVER!

So just a few reminders of three very fun, very “Cleveland” things to do with your families and friends this summer. Hopefully I will get myself to all of them…gotta love a good outdoor concert, picnic, trip to the beach and french flea market!

(I saw this amazing mural the other night while I was downtown cheering on our AMAZING CAVS, thought I would share. SO COOL!!!)

  fall happenings

Hey friends, happy new week to you. It was another great fall weekend to be living in Northeast, Ohio, don’t you agree? Our backyard looks like an abstract painting of yellow, orange and deep red hues as the trees loose their leaves prepping for the impending winter ahead.

Over the weekend we attended the first of hopefully many barn parties at Spice Acres (photo above,) home to Jackie and Ben Bebenroth. Nestled in the Cuyahoga National Valley this farm/homestead is a busy city dwellers dream country escape. If they ever open the farm to the public again you’ve got to try and get a ticket and go explore. Plus, great news…from the ticket sales of the dinner the family was able to buy a new (used) tractor to help in farming the land, congrats you guys!

In addition to the farm dinner, we took a long walk with Baby Ninja in the Rocky River Reservation and again, so many captivating fall colors. We are so lucky to have such a stunning parks system so close and so accessible to everyone. This fall try and get out and go for a walk, a run or a ride on your closest Metropark trails. So pretty.

Besides all of the outdoor fall activities there are a few fall/Halloween-focused events that I wanted to let everyone know about…

>“Shuck yeah!” : This new fall event celebrates oyster time in the CLE. Hosted by Cleveland Scene Magazine and nestled in Tyler Village, come get yourself some oysters, a craft beer, listen to some good tunes and enjoy your fall Saturday (the 25th.) PLUS, after you’ve shucked your oysters, chef Zach Bruell will be hosting an oyster toppings bar complete with many flavor enhancers from the classic mignonette to pesto to a spicy cocktail sauce…go ahead, try them all.

> Boo at the Zoo : Looking to entertain your “little animals” look no further than the Cleveland Metroparks and their annual Boo at the Zoo event. Not only is the month of October free admission for all kids, next weekend; October 23rd-26th is the final weekend for the spook free Halloween celebration. Get your tickets here.

> Westgate Mall Halloween Extravaganza : Saturday, October 25th from 1-3pm, the shopping plaza will host pumpkin carving/decorating, crafts, trick o treating and more. If you need to run to “Tarjay” this would be a great time to drag the kiddo’s with you…getting errands crossed off your list while still satisfying the little ones with, snack size candy bars and pretty pumpkin decorating. Sounds like a win win!

> Fall ice cream : I haven’t been able to check it out personally but I keep hearing wonderful things about the new Mason’s Creamery in Ohio City. This week try and get over to visit this new shop, have a few scoops salty caramel, smores or something pumpkiny. Ice cream is so much more tempting to me rather than Halloween candy.

> Circus in town : This weekend is the annual visit of the Ringling Bros and Barnum Bailey show “Built to Amaze.” Grab your friends and go check out the clowns, elephants and trapeze artists at the Q.

> Chelsea’s : It’s time to get your costumes on for next weeks holiday hoopla. Get yourself over to Chelsea’s Vintage and Costume Rentals for those last minute party rentals or for the perfect costume finishing touches they literally have every costume need possible.

Just a few fall, Halloween events for you to explore. Have a great week everyone. Cheers!

  A summer Beach Party

Good afternoon and happy Friday. Looks to be a wonderful weekend ahead  filled with summer sunshine.

There are a bunch of fun things happening in the CLE this weekend. The Tribe is in town playing the Texas Rangers, it is the annual one-day Lakewood Art Festival and the first annual Huntington Beach BEACH PARTY!

Grab your beach blankets and some snacks as Cleveland Metroparks invites all of us to their “Summer Beach Party”  on Saturday evening, from 5-11pm at Huntington Beach in Huntington Reservation in Bay Village.

Beach-party-goers can enjoy a fun-filled afternoon sun and even more excitement after the sun sets. Families can enjoy a variety of games and activities.  Come listen to the tropical sounds of local steel drum band, Calypso Gypsies as they perform throughout the evening and when the sun comes down (around 8:45pm,) enjoy the cult surfing film Blue Crush on the beach!

Have a great weekend everyone. Get your summer events in…the back-to-school countdown is almost on. Yikes!

  Flour & more!

photoHi there. How were your weekends? I’m just creeping back to business since my sister was visiting over the last few days. It was so great to have her here, we really enjoyed summer in Cleveland with the new nephew while she was here.

We explored the new Cleveland MetroParks restaurant Merwin’s for lunch on Saturday. The location is perfect for a summer cocktail on the patio while enjoying watching the boats and kayakers go by. I indulged in my first post-pregnacy margarita paired with a burger and fries, such a summer treat. If you are looking for someplace to ride bikes to and sit outside I would recommend Merwin’s at Rivergate Park for something new.

We also had the privilege to attend a special Sunday brunch hosted by Flour in Moreland Hills. We sampled many of their brunch menu items from savory dishes like the above delicious eggs benedict to nutella stuffed french toast paired with a blood orange mimosa, it was lovely. If you’ve never been to Flour for brunch summer on the patio is the perfect time to go explore. Plus, you can always hop on over to Chagrin Falls afterwards to stroll around and make your Sunday even more of a “fun day!”

I actually can’t believe we are almost in August. I guess my summer is flying by with the addition of little Baby Ninja. It’s amazing how on this journey of being a new Mom, everyday is such an adventure. Just last week I learned how to flip over a high chair to safely nestle his car seat while I enjoyed lunch at Burntwood Tavern. The hostess was so nice to me, I explained I hadn’t done that before and she replied, “see you are doing awesome and you don’t even know it” and she was right. Every outing, every new toy, every different cry or expression is a new adventure over here. While we are just starting to get out and explore Cleveland this summer, I am so appreciative to all the love; even from a stranger and how it can really make my doubts and concerns (“am I doing this right?”) slip away. Thanks everyone!

This week has lots of fun in store and this weekend, the first weekend in August is gonna be great. No rain in the forecast, art festivals, twins day, outdoor concerts and so much more. Hey Cleveland, happy summer, you are looking great!

*I was invited with a guest to Flour for brunch; including a $25 gift card to return. All content, ideas, and words are my own. Thanks for supporting this restaurant that allows me to create special content like this for iheartcleveland!
