Can you believe it’s just about fall? Time for apple picking and pumpkin pie. Time for fall festivals and tricks & treats. I love everything fall, the change of outdoor colors, the new scents of spice and campfires, burnt orange and mustard yellow and rich chocolate brown…it’s all so warm and friendly.
The one thing I don’t love is the the notion that with the beginning of fall comes the end of summer. Sigh. My garden is finally in full bloom…SO MUCH oregano…we’ve picked handfuls of many tomatoes and feasted on caprese salads for dinners..but the harvest is just about at the end.
One of the best purchases I made this year was our portable, raised bed. You can find similar ones here on Wayfair.” It was great to be able to move the bed around to the spot with the most sun. It was so fun to watch my son pull up a step stool and give the herbs a water or to spontaneously pick a tomato to snack on. If you aren’t ready to commit to where to physically put a garden, these portable reissued beds are a perfect purchase for you!
So back to our “harvest,” let’s just say we had a very successful herb year. We had plenty of basil, rosemary, oregano and mint. Our tomatoes were so-so, but our carrots and cucumbers were a bit lackluster, I actually think we put too many seeds in and they kinda suffocated one another…note to self, pinch back the smaller plants next planting season. I’m planning on picking most of the herbs and saving them for fall/winter cooking adventures. I might dry the oregano and rosemary but I will for sure make some pesto cubes with the basil…so good.
So “cheers” to you and whatever harvest you may have this fall, and remember it’s never too late to start saving seeds and planning next years garden!
