Happy new week everyone! I’m not sure if it’s because spring is on the horizon but I am in total home improvement project mode. I have a few new bright, bold paint colors picked out for some doors, I’m thinking it might be time for a new living room rug and new throw pillows (more gray tones, less bold hues), lots of grass seed, a few new trees and a couple of big..huge planters filled with spring bulbs. Plus, one of last years design/decor goals that didn’t happen…a new mailbox! Enter the Cleveland Home + Remodeling Expo.

Today I have FOUR tickets to any fellow home remodeler enthusiast who wants to go check out Ohio’s leading home remodeling experts at the IX Center this upcoming weekend.

Plus…and I’m so excited to tell you this…HGTV superstars Drew & Scott of Property Brothers are going to be on hand to show us all the new and innovative trends in home remodel and design. Check ou the show schedule for their appearance times.

And last but not least, check out the “chair” area where “yours truly” is part of an regional showcase of designers who have taken a unique thrift shop chair and transformed into a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture.   Our kitchen & The Great Big Home + Garden Show

Hi friends. Hope your weekends were all great, I mean this weather is out of control amazing don’t you think? Mr. C & his snowboard gang aren’t super jazzed about the warmer temps and while I too would like a little more snowbunny time I have to say, no socks in January with cute suede flats are pretty terrific as well.

Now…onto today’s talk. So one of my personal goals this year is to give our kitchen a bit of a tlc update. We have a very small galley kitchen and with just a few small adjustments; a couple of base cabinets for storage, a pantry cabinet for food, a range hood with a more powerful exhaust, new countertops that can over to allow for a few barstool seats to push underneath…we can make a huge difference in the functionality of the space.

You see when I say base cabinets I need to clarify that our kitchen doesn’t have the best storage, in fact it truly has very little…like almost none. We use a kitchen prep table as our one and only space for storing our most used pots and pans (underneath) for prepping food and then with a quick wipedown we also snuggle around the table for casual weeknight dining.

With regards to a food pantry, I mean a piece of cabinetry that can house all of our lunch things, snacks, baking items, etc. Currently we have a large built-in-unit that was behind two sliding doors (we removed the doors) that contains a series of tiny, not truly functional drawers and some shelving where I include baskets full of this and that…a large catch-all to be exact. What’s worse is that with each day that Baby Ninja grows older he is onto the fact that the shelf is full of his “emergency” snacks and is trying to self serve puffs, crackers, etc. whenever he wants. It would be wonderful to have everything inside a cabinet; out of site, out of mind.

Adding a new range hood could also very much improve our cooking options. We currently have and older fan system that not only is super loud but also doesn’t really work that well. Again, a very functional upgrade.

So with all this said I am starting to pull together reference and pricing and next steps…I need to find a reasonable contractor who can help push my little project forward. Enter the Annual Great Big Home + Garden Show kicking off at the IX Center this week, and running from February 5th to the 14th.

unnamedThis is show is one I actually very much look forward too. I love to exploring the inspiration homes, talking to new home product vendors, dreaming for spring and planting flowers and walk around inside on what is typically a freezing cold winter day.

Some of this year’s show features include:

  • A variety of custom built homes.
  • A series of “she sheds” aka backyard shed’s dressed to the nines!
  • Lots of gardening inspiration.
  • Celebrity shows including my favorite the Beekman Boys!
  • And much much more.

The exciting news is that I have a pair of tickets to give to one lucky reader.

Tickets are range from $12-$5 (Children under 6 free, when purchased online.)  Tickets are now on sale online.

  Weekend fun!

weekend

Hey friends! No matter what someone might say, there is NEVER a dull moment int the CLE! This upcoming weekend is filled with two of my favorite things…Champagne bubbles and decorating stories from some of the best in the business Chip and his lovely wife Joanna Gaines from the hit HGTV show Fixer Upper.

This week marks the first annual Idea Stream Week of Wine. Celebrating wines and wine making this event is hosted by WVIZ/PBS and Heinen’s. While there are a few great signature tasting events, Friday nights champagne tasting event looks the best to me. I mean, who can turn down multiple tastes of bubbles paired with hor’doeuvres by many of Clevelands best chefs. $75 tickets are still available…get yours today!

If bubbly is not your thing…perhaps you’re into home design and remodeling…enter this weekend Cleveland Home + Remodeling Expo. Friday through Sunday at the new Cleveland Convention Center you can hang with many of  Northeast Ohio’s best contractors and designers to talk “all things home.” PLUS my favorite HGTV design couple Chip and Joanna Gaines will be there to talk about how to take your house and make it feel like home. Chip and Joanna are obviously talented design experts but I also really enjoy their quirky chemistry with one another. For appearance times and tickets visit their site.

So, while you are starting to make weekend plans don’t miss out on these two fun events. I look forward to drinking many bubbles and geeking out at the show with you…Cheers!

Great Big Home & Garden giveaway!

h&GHey there and happy mid week Cleveland. While it’s been a cold one at least we weren’t part of the nations recent East coast snow storm…always thinking positive. This week has been a busy, but super fun one, while I packed with passion and precision for Alt Summit I also had a great work (short) week.

With the beginning of the new year I have vowed to myself to make an effort to thrown my firm into so many more collaborative opportunities and for that extra effort the creative juices are really flowing. From collaborating with friends and fellow entrepreneurs to picking up some very exciting new business my daily design work has recently been infused with a new sense of excitement. I thank my lucky starts that I get to get up every morning and work with people that inspire me on projects that both challenge me and excite me. Loving your job is such a cool thing, I can only wish it upon everyone.

Besides resolving to work more collaborative one of my personal resolutions was a few more home improvement projects for the new year. Nothing to crazy, no massive remodeling projects or digging up the entire front yard to repair sewer lines (good riddens 2013) this year I’m talking some fun decor stuff. Perhaps installing some pretty outdoor trellises for my wishful espaliered pear tree to grow with. Maybe some outdoor benches to better utilize our backyard as a summer oasis. I’d like to give the front beds of our home some deserved attention this spring filling them with bulbs and a few tree-like shrubs to further block the home from the road. I’d like to install a new mailbox, while I appreciate the rubbermaid box the previous owners left us…from a design standpoint it truly makes my skin crawl each day I pull into the drive, must swap out with something sleek and clean. Also want to install a little stone wall (behind or adjacent to the mailbox) that will feature our house address numbers for friends and guests. Don’t even get me started about outdoor landscape lighting to highlight the home at dusk…I guess I do have a “few” projects on the horizon. Enter this years Cleveland’s Great Big Home + Garden Show at the IX Center.

This years show will take place Saturday February 8th through Sunday February 16th and will feature more than 650 exhibitors showcasing some of their best renovation, home repair and improvement vendors. Plus this years show will also feature the popular garden showcase featuring international themed gardens from all over the world, the perfect indoor fix to cure those winter blues. While I can’t say I get to the show every year, I think it might be a good year to go check it out for some new ideas to help me in tacking my “to-do” list. Thinking of going as well? I have a pair of tickets to give away as well as a discount code for my readers.

When purchasing your tickets online, enter HEARTCLE to receive an extra dollar off the ticket cost. To enter to win the free pair of entrance tickets to the show tweet me “@iheartclev I’d love to check out the @GreatBigShow at the IX Center.” Winners name will be drawn by Friday January 31st. Winner will be notified by twitter.
