  Summer in the CLE!

Hello CLE! How was your weekend everyone? While it called for rained it ended up being pretty nice weather. We took Baby Ninja to Huntington Beach for a little bit as well as a few stroller walks, a first birthday, dinner with friends and even a trip to the park!

Today I just wanted to call out a few fun, not-to-miss things happening in the city this summer. Gather up some of your friends and make sure to put a few of these in your summer calendars.

Wade Oval Wednesdays  :  Music. Food. Dancing. Spend your Wednesday evening with other CLE families and friends, bring your blankets, pack your picnics and settle in for an evening of free fun. I am especially looking forward to Carlos Jones & The Plus Band, performing July 1st..get your reggae on!

Edgewater Live : Yoga, food trucks and live bands on the beach, another perfect evening in the 216. Every Thursday through August 14th join your friends and enjoy one of the best beaches our city has to offer. Thanks to InnerBliss Yoga for leading a :30 minute practice to kick off the party and to the Cleveland metro parks for utilizing the beach in a new way! We love it!

The Flea Sunday Market : While I adore the Cleveland Flea; their baby-sister the Sunday Market is my favorite! The frenchie-themed morning is like a flea you might as you wander down the streets of france. Music, antiques, macaroons, oysters and champagne, makes for the best Sunday morning EVER!

So just a few reminders of three very fun, very “Cleveland” things to do with your families and friends this summer. Hopefully I will get myself to all of them…gotta love a good outdoor concert, picnic, trip to the beach and french flea market!

(I saw this amazing mural the other night while I was downtown cheering on our AMAZING CAVS, thought I would share. SO COOL!!!)

Veggie U Food & Wine event

Good morning friends. Everyone have a great evening? So many wonderful happenings on Wednesday evenings in the CLE. From the weekly Wade Oval Wednesday music & cultural evenings to the new musical performances at the Ohio City Stages (at the Transformer Station in Hingetown) summer Wednesday’s are the new Fridays!

Last night was my first outing alone with our Baby Ninja or anyone else for that matter. I needed to go into work for a bit and then swing by Target for a few staples and I realized how crazy and liberating the whole experience was. What I once took for granted was now a quiet and mind-gathering experience. While I didn’t stroll through the aisles looking for the new designer accessories or shade of lip stain; instead hit up the baby aisle, grabbed some paper plates (to cut down on dishwashing) and packing tape (for my online shopping returns,) I enjoyed the escape just as much as I used too. Life is evolving in my world and with it comes daily reminders of what once “was” and what now “is.” All you Cleveland mums and dads out there ever feel the same? Such a bizarre feeling.

veggieU Today I wanted to take the time to give a quick push for an amazing event this Saturday night, the Veggie U Food and Wine event happening at Pura Vida  and Hospitality Management Center at Cuyahoga Community College on Public Square. A few years ago we went to this same fundraiser dinner and it completely blew my mind. Multiple chefs, an array of fresh veggies with every course, summer cocktails and even better, we got to take home a bag of locally-grown, unique vegetables as our parting gift. It was the perfect summer evening out. If you don’t know about Veggie U, it is a non profit that encourages raising awareness in school-aged children about healthy food options and awareness as to where their food comes from…grows. It’s a “classroom garden” program grounded in academics with a dash of fun including growing their own plot of veggies. The good news is that there are still a handful of tickets available for this annual dinner celebration for this Saturday night and I encourage you to grab some friends, make a donation to this wonderful organization and enjoy a summer evening out to dinner while making a difference. Get your tickets today! I hear it’s supposed to get warmer over the weekend and while I love snuggling under the covers with this new little one I’m ready to get back into a few summer maxi’s so bring on the sunshine. Have a great rest of your day. Cheers CLE!

  Summertime Outdoor movies

Nothing beats seeing a movie outside in the summer. Whether you pull the family screen and projector to your backyard or you attend one of the free outdoor movies nights in your neighborhood or even catch a flick at the last standing drive in’s, seeing a movie under the stars is the perfect summertime, evening entertainment.

Where else do you go see outdoor, summer movies around the CLE? I can’t wait to see a few good films and eat popcorn for dinner with the new babe asleep in his car seat…whether the plan works or not, we’ll see…but at least it’s a good thought? A for effort? Happy movie-going Cleveland!

  Weekend fun!

gingerbeer(my “beer” of choice this weekend! LOVE the retro-inspired type & color combo of this can!)

It’s the freaking weekend, baby I’m about to have me some fun! Happy Memorial Day weekend Cleveland. Hope you are excited for the three day holiday as I am.

Just a couple of things going on that I thought you should check out…

– Have you been to the new Lululemon Pop Up Summer Shop at Beachcliff Square? Not only do they have select merchandise special to that location, they are also offering FREE YOGA classes from many of the area yogi experts. For their schedule “friend them” on Facebook to be in the “lulu-know.”

– This weekend kicks off the Marc’s Annual Great American Rib Cook-Off  and Music Festival at Jacob’s Pavilion. Friday admission is $1.00 all day including tickets to see the Spazmatics in concert; super fun! Pack your own wet wipes, the ribs are delicious and you’ll want to be prepared to get messy.

– It’s “Blossom Time!” One of the MOST CHARMING festivals I have ever witnessed. You can find the popular little carnival in historic downtown Chagrin Falls, hot air balloons lift off from behind the high school and there is a 5k to burn off all the adult beverages from the holiday weekend as well. Sounds like a great springtime celebration to me! For the complete schedule visit their site here. Happy Blossom everybody!

Cleveland Foundation Day at Wade Oval on May 24th means free entry into all of the museums. PLUS a few special entry FREE admissions including the Van Gogh Repetitions exhibit at the art museum, the planetarium at the Science Museum and the new exhibit at the botanical gardens including lots of lego sculptures.

– This Sunday’s Parisian Street Market in Hingetown if the perfect place to stroll and explore some french-inspired vendors of antiques, artisanal foods and neighborhood fun. Gather your friends for brunch and then head on down to the street fair after, best morning ever! For details check out their site.

–  It’s all “Greek to me!” and there is nothing better than the food, the music, the dancing and the entire scene at this weekend’s Tremont Greek Fest! Go early, parking is typically a scavenger hunt, but TOTALLY worth parallel parking on some side street…with some guy who won’t pass you…just keep telling yourself it’s worth it for the baklava. Opa!

Happy long weekend to you. Cheers to sum sum summah time!

Hey everybody, happy Monday to you! Looks like the sunshine from the weekend has carried over into the week, we might see a sprinkle or two but nothing like the monsoons of last week…perfect for our long weekend ahead.

Congrats to all of my friends who ran yesterday’s Cleveland Marathon. You guys had the perfect conditions and I couldn’t be more thrilled for some of you newbies out there who went out nervous and enjoyed every step of the race day. Congrats I am so proud of you!

Over the weekend we had the opportunity to attend the Cleveland Orchestra’s latest creative collaborative performance of The Cunning Little Vixen. It was part orchestra, part animated film, part opera and part theatre performance all wrapped up into one three-part, 90 minute performance. As always, any event at Severance is stunning, just being in the building is like stepping back into the vast history of Cleveland society. I could get lost in the ceiling details for hours, the patterns are just stunning.

We were able to attend the artistic performance through the young professionals group; The Circle, I posted more about it last week here. We met with other orchestra-goers before the show at a lovely reception prior to the performance. It was a great group of arts-engaged people and I would highly recommend you check out this group AND this performance as it is only showing until May 24th here in town. For tickets visit their website and for more information on the new young audience group; The Circle check out their Facebook page here.

photo 2Have a great week and seriously, you should check out this wild, non-traditional orchestra performance. It is one that will go down in the Cleveland artistic history books for sure!
