Well hello there! Now that the weather is warming up, the rain clouds are clearing up and the sun is shining-finally, it’s time to get back on the exploring-the-216-bandwagon.
So many fun things happening around town! I noticed that the team over at MOCA is hosting some very unique events this month, some of them will even sell out so you’ve got to register; like yesterday. Check out three of the events I think sound awesome and for the full event listing visit their site.
Friday, May 8th @ 7:30 (THIS Friday!)
BFA Party: A Toast to CIA’s Graduating Seniors
FREE and open to all
Come congratulate graduating seniors of the Cleveland Institute of Art after they present their capstone projects: their bachelor of fine arts (BFA) thesis exhibitions. Each CIA senior is required to present an exhibition of his or her work, displaying skill, voice, and vision developed in their undergraduate years. The artwork will be displayed for the public in CIA’s Gund and McCullough buildings.
At 7:30pm the celebration begins at MOCA; and at 8:30pm CIA will announce the winners of its President’s Traveling Scholarships, the cash awards that enable six graduates to travel and pursue special projects. Finish off the evening with a walk across the street to Coquette Patisserie for french sweets that’s what inspiring artists dreams are made of!
Saturday, May 19th @ 11:00am (THIS Saturday!)
From Angels to Arrow Signs: Memorial Symbols, Then and Now
$15 General Admission; $12 Senior Admission; $10 MOCA Members
MOCA Cleveland and Lake View Cemetery present a special, two-part tour in connection with the Museum’s current exhibition, DIRGE: Reflections on [Life and] Death. After meeting at MOCA, visitors will board Lolly the Trolley to embark on a guided tour through the picturesque and historic Lake View Cemetery. Traveling through time, visitors will view monuments spanning the cemetery’s 145 year history and learn about the special symbols and imagery used to express beliefs about death at different times. This tour will be followed by a guided tour through MOCA Cleveland’s current exhibition, DIRGE, that will reflect on similar themes of grief, memory, and commemoration as expressed in art today.
There are two tour opportunities, the first tour starting at 11am and the second beginning at 1pm. Each tour is the same and ticket price includes both guided tours. Tickets must be prepaid online prior to the tour.
Friday, May 30th @ 8pm
Free for MOCA Members. General Admission: $8 in Advance; $10 at the Door
