  A little bit of shopping.

mall

Happy Monday Cleveland. Hope you all had great weekends. It was such a pretty snowy weekend on Friday and Saturday, perfect for the couch, lots of movies, some baking, a dash of cleaning and a trip to the Mall?

Yep, you heard me…we went to the mall.* When is the last time you’ve been to a traditional indoor mall? I can honestly say it’s been awhile since I have and it was the first for little Baby Ninja.

I needed some new makeup and wanted to start holiday-shopping-brainstorming, add my first skinny gingerbread latte of the season, a sleeping baby co-shopper and voila…a lovely afternoon stroll around the mall.

Two things I did come across that, while it might not interest all of you (I mean we ARE talking about the mall) I thought should be noted.

There is an entire new line of clothes at The Limited that screams Olivia Pope. The “Scandal Collection” is full of wide leg trousers, drapey sheer blouses, wrap sweaters and my favorite the Drape Collar Wrap Coat. The whole line is very pretty in person, the fabrics are rich and the colors very subdued.

For the t-shirt lovers on your holiday wish list the creative minds over at Fresh Brewed Tees have set up a stand in the middle of the mall with so many styles that I hadn’t even seen before; great holiday gifts for sure. Personally I smiled when I saw their “This is my Favorite Cleveland Shirt.”

After the mall a quick pit stop at our usual shopping suspect; Target to pick up a few things for the week. While we were there I checked out the Orla Kiely cosmetics, yoga and travel lines. Such perfect gifts for all your fashionable friends, you’ve got to see the entire collection in person. And speaking of collections, have you seen the new Toms for Target Collection? I love their black slip on shoes for me and the little patterned ones for the babes.

So, while I typically don’t visit or regularly share happenings from the mall or Target, I’ve got to say having a baby gives me new appreciation for strolling around warm and indoors while still feeling connected to what’s happening in the retail world.

I hope you and a great weekend and had a few little adventures yourselves. Happy shopping and holiday list-making everyone. Have a great week!

(*I went to Great Northern Mall in North Olmsted)

  a bit of baby décor

Hi friends, hope you are having a great week, all good here, just happy that spring looks like it finally arrived.

I’ve had a few friends inquire as to what I am going to do with the impending nursery design and decor and so over the weekend I actually sat down and started planning. Don’t get me wrong, from the moment we found out there would be a little person living under our roof, I had an overall idea as to visually how it might play out. Now that we counting down on our days, we needed to actually pick out a few things that the little person might enjoy too.

While I wouldn’t say there was a “theme” per say, I do collect vintage globes and want to keep as many of them in the nursery as we can comfortably fit. I love the retro turquoise shade of blue and the idea of “Adventure awaits” or “Oh the places he’ll go” makes us super happy. So above are a few of the pieces we are planning on spending lots of time with as this little man grows up in a bright and happy space.

1 : Themis mobile : MOMA Store
2 : Turquoise ombré curtain panels : Target
3 : Vintage Globes : personal collection of various sized globes
4 : Changing Table / Dresser : IKEA, Mandal
5 : Floor Bin Storage Basket : Land of Nod
6 : Birdie wall print : Land of Nod
7 : Je’taime pillow : C Wonder
8 : Luca Glider : Land of Nod
9 : Crib : Target
10 : Flokati Rug : Land of Nod

I can’t wait to share some pics once we get going on the project but for now I need to clear out a few of my own “treasures” to make way for the wee one décor!

  Friday Fun!

Good morning Cleveland and happy Friday! Where did the week go? It literally just flew by right before my very eyes. So many things to be excited about this weekend including tonights fish fry with friends, more Cleveland International Film Festival movies, getting lucky at the Horseshoe Casino (including brunch) and tickets to the Terminal Tower Observation Deck! And don’t even get me started on more baby fashions/room decorating…It’s gonna be a very fun two days.

What about you? Big weekend plans? While they are predicting rain, at least it is planning on being mid 40’s and above, so that’s a positive, don’t you think?

A few things to keep you excited this weekend…

Did you watch the movie that Positively Cleveland has produced (above?) The tune is catchy and the visuals gorgeous. While it took me a few views to get totally on board, I truly do love how they pair “fancy Cleveland” with the “everyday Cleveland.” It shows all sides of our city and I think they did a perfect job at capturing our spirit. Great job guys!

The Film Festival : It’s the last weekend of the 38th Annual Cleveland International Film Festival and there are still movies with seats available and plenty on standy-by. Check out the schedule and choose wisely, oh and don’t forget your popcorn and twirlers for the perfect movie treat.

Fish Fry Fridays : If you don’t already have dinner plans, grab some friends and plan on gorging on fried fish, mac n cheese, french fries and all those other yummy lenten delights tonight. Personally I like the fish that St Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Catholic Parish on Warren Road in Westpark serves up but there are SO MANY options in our communities. For a complete list of fish fry’s both east side & west side check out the ultimate list that Cleveland.com has put together.

Transformer Station Opening Party : Tonight join the crew over at the Transformer Station for the gallery opening of Christian Patterson Redheaded Peckerwood and Superblack work by Jordan Tate. The party kicks off at 7pm with live spinning dj’s, book signings and a cash bar.

Oh Joy for Target : I don’t know about you guys, but this new party decoration line at Target is too sweet for words. Thanks to Joy Cho and her talented team of designers I have managed to hoard many pastel plastic goblets and coordinating scalloped edged party napkins. I am tempted to take home the cake pedestal but for now I just love my bit of party fun from Oh Joy. Now, I must get to work planning a party!

My go to Radio Station : It’s not an event per say, but I love me some tunes from the 20’3, 30’s & 40’s and if you ever get in my car you will probably here WKHR 91.5 on the radio. This volunteer-run radio station has little commercial interruptions and darling weather reports. I just love this little station. This month they are doing a radio-thon raising funds to keep the oldies alive. I wanted to share this little tie bit in case anyone enjoys the station like I do. Listen now!

Have a great weekend everybody. Looking forward to sharing more with you next week. Peace.

  my trip to Target

targetSo over the weekend I did the typical Saturday trip to Target. I had a list and really just wanted to run in and out, picking up exactly what I was there for. I needed some eye makeup remover and face wipes, I wanted some mints for my car, I also wanted to get some new lotion to cure the winter-time dry skin and I had seen these cute plastic trays that I wanted to see if they still had in the dollar section. Didn’t seem like a big shopping trip perhaps under twenty dollars? I could be in and out quickly because I was sure it would be crowded on a Saturday afternoon…but does that really ever happen when you go to Target?

When in the said dollar aisle I discovered their latest, sweet stationary line filled with patterned file folders (3 for $1,) mechanical gold foil pencils (4 for $1,) pretty packs of thank you notes (6 for $1,) tiny pink post it notes  and a bold floral pattern post it pad.

Not only did I get lured into the budget stationary line, I found a new set of Nate Berkus sheets on super dooper sale and I totally snapped them up!

So, while my trip was supposed to be ten minutes and twenty dollars…I spent about a half an hour perusing the end cap sale sections and spent just under fifty dollars. Please tell me this happens to you too?

All in all I guess it could have been worse…I mean did you see Target is now carrying Vitamix; also displayed on an end cap? So tempting…Happy shopping, happy Target everybody.

  Fashions for those expecting

baby_bump_FshionsHappy Wednesday to you! I know most of you know by now that there will be a new little “Cleveland-cheerleader” arriving this summer and we couldn’t be more thrilled! With that said, so many of you have asked how I hid the little bump for as long as we did. I have to say I did it with a few good fashion trends, add winter layers it was pretty easy.

I actually was very resistant to the transition from normal clothes to the stretchy “baby on board” fashions on today’s market. While everyone told me “oh maternity fashions are so much better today than they were back when” I can’t even begin to think of how bad they had to once be. I am still not “on board” with all these stretchy panels & empire waist drawstrings everywhere.

However, with a few good infinity scarves, some chic bootie shoes, lots of accessories and don’t forget the bright lipstick, you too can pull of being fashionable all nine months.

Recently I have turned to many of our great vintage stores for some amazing special occasion dresses (for Alt Summit & Jump Back Ball) as well as everyday patterned pieces. Thanks to Chelseas, Flower Child and ReDress for some amazing dresses I have really enjoyed reworking old styles to make them fit and to make them interesting during this mild fashion hiccup.

I have also found a few amazing belly bump pieces at both the stylish and budget friendly stores around town that I wanted to share as I know there are a few of us expectant mothers out there in the 216!

1 : J Crew Embroidered Stripe Tunic : While it is a little light for the current arctic freeze this tunic gives me hope that spring/summer will be here (along with baby!) soon. It runs large so you can wear it during and post baby. I can’t wait to wear it over my bathing suit with baby in tow at Huntington Beach next summer.

2 : Old Navy Open-Front Cardi :  Easy on the wallet. I’ve managed to find so many fun pieces at Old Navy. This lightweight cardigan will also double over a tank top later this summer but for now it the perfect drapey sweater, so cuddly and soft.

3 : Old Navy Anchor Print Shirt : I really miss button down cotton blouses (tucked into a pencil skirt) but for now I bought a few sizes larger than typical and am rocking the nauti print top with leggings and boots!

4 : Liz Lange for Target Long-Sleeve Top : This t-shirt has been my favorite basic so far. It’s great to wear to yoga or a quick trip to the market, but it also is a great long layering piece. A good one for the wallet as well, I think I paid around $16 for it.

5 : Lululemon Roll Down Pants : These high waisted “wunder-under-like” pants have gone from fancy nights out (I literally dressed them up for Christmas midnight mass) to spinning class. Typically I don’t like the roll down tops types of pants, but I just pull these up and over the bump and off I go. They may be on the higher price end, but I wear them so much that I feel like the price per wear is worth every penny.

6 : Anthropologie Cabled Cowl Poncho :  Another more “splurgy” piece, this poncho has been a great “inside event” piece. This sweater is like a good blanket, not only does it keep you warm, it makes you feel all cozy even during there insanely cold days.

All you expectant moms-to-be out in the land of CLE any fashions or pieces I may have missed? Otherwise, I hope you enjoyed just a few of my finds for those of us who have a little bump on the way or for those of you who know someone who is expecting. Enjoy & happy Wednesday!
