  Headed to Alt Summit!

wearAlt

Good morning my Cleveland friends! Hope your week has been wonderful, exciting and filled with fun. It’s Wednesday and I couldn’t be more thrilled to head off to Hopkins and jump on over to Salt Lake City to attend this years Alt Summit Conference.

This gathering of predominantly women-owned business owners, makers and bloggers makes my heart skip a beat. As a small business owner and designer I often seek out learning opportunities to better myself, to fill my creative energy pot and to be constantly inspired. I can’t think of a better conference to attend that “Alt.” While I will be learning about better photography tricks (god knows I can improve), ways use video in my work, partnering with others and other creative topics, one thing that I love about this event is the fashion. I mean, the attendees go over-the-top with regards to style, for me it’s like visual crack.

As a new Mom I too am looking forward to dressing pretty (sans spit up) and layering the accessories one workshop to the next. I have way overpacked…seven pairs of shoes for just a  few days…but feel pretty good about my picks. I mean, for these types of all day long learning events you want to be stylish AND comfortable am I right?

I am bringing (1) a new Boden dress I got for my birthday. The bright bold bird print is playful and makes me smile, plus I don’t often wear blue but I am pretty confident in the bold hue. My shoes for this dress are super old Payless Christian Siriano purply-blue suede booties…it pays to be a bit of a shoe hoarder. I am bringing my pink Kate Spade clutch as an added pop of bold color for this outfit. For travel and casual creative chat (2) I’m gonna rock at CLE Clothing Company sweatshirt declaring my love for our city…seriously I’m loving this comfy sweatshirt, everything they make is so fun and represents our city so well. As I loose all this baby weight I am rocking some Denizen Jeans from Target, they look so polished and fancy yet they are affordable during this time of transition, I would highly recommend you check them out. I’m going to be toting all my conference materials and my computer around in my new Blair Ritchey tote. Gotta love spreading the word about a lovely Cleveland-based designer who has the talent to produce such luxurious leather goods, I love this bag. Lastly (3) I am packing lots of pink and polka dots including this overcoat by Kate Spade and these pink pixie pants also from Target, a mix of high end and everyday for this traveler makes me happy.

This will be my second time attending the conference and I am looking forward to grabbing coffee with style maven Hillary, talking retail and kids with Kim, discussing design with Chicago designer MJ, and being inspired by all things DIY with Andrea. It is a time to set goals for the year, to engage with other like-minded attendees and I’d be lying if I wasn’t pretty excited to get a few nights of solid sleep.

Have a great rest of your week. Follow along in my Alt experience on instagram @charity216. Cheerio!

  a bit of baby décor

Hi friends, hope you are having a great week, all good here, just happy that spring looks like it finally arrived.

I’ve had a few friends inquire as to what I am going to do with the impending nursery design and decor and so over the weekend I actually sat down and started planning. Don’t get me wrong, from the moment we found out there would be a little person living under our roof, I had an overall idea as to visually how it might play out. Now that we counting down on our days, we needed to actually pick out a few things that the little person might enjoy too.

While I wouldn’t say there was a “theme” per say, I do collect vintage globes and want to keep as many of them in the nursery as we can comfortably fit. I love the retro turquoise shade of blue and the idea of “Adventure awaits” or “Oh the places he’ll go” makes us super happy. So above are a few of the pieces we are planning on spending lots of time with as this little man grows up in a bright and happy space.

1 : Themis mobile : MOMA Store
2 : Turquoise ombré curtain panels : Target
3 : Vintage Globes : personal collection of various sized globes
4 : Changing Table / Dresser : IKEA, Mandal
5 : Floor Bin Storage Basket : Land of Nod
6 : Birdie wall print : Land of Nod
7 : Je’taime pillow : C Wonder
8 : Luca Glider : Land of Nod
9 : Crib : Target
10 : Flokati Rug : Land of Nod

I can’t wait to share some pics once we get going on the project but for now I need to clear out a few of my own “treasures” to make way for the wee one décor!

  my trip to Target

targetSo over the weekend I did the typical Saturday trip to Target. I had a list and really just wanted to run in and out, picking up exactly what I was there for. I needed some eye makeup remover and face wipes, I wanted some mints for my car, I also wanted to get some new lotion to cure the winter-time dry skin and I had seen these cute plastic trays that I wanted to see if they still had in the dollar section. Didn’t seem like a big shopping trip perhaps under twenty dollars? I could be in and out quickly because I was sure it would be crowded on a Saturday afternoon…but does that really ever happen when you go to Target?

When in the said dollar aisle I discovered their latest, sweet stationary line filled with patterned file folders (3 for $1,) mechanical gold foil pencils (4 for $1,) pretty packs of thank you notes (6 for $1,) tiny pink post it notes  and a bold floral pattern post it pad.

Not only did I get lured into the budget stationary line, I found a new set of Nate Berkus sheets on super dooper sale and I totally snapped them up!

So, while my trip was supposed to be ten minutes and twenty dollars…I spent about a half an hour perusing the end cap sale sections and spent just under fifty dollars. Please tell me this happens to you too?

All in all I guess it could have been worse…I mean did you see Target is now carrying Vitamix; also displayed on an end cap? So tempting…Happy shopping, happy Target everybody.
