Lauren HB Ceramics Studio + giveaway

IMG_1031I met Lauren early this past summer…perhaps it was the May, Cleveland Flea, I can’t be sure. From the moment I laid eyes on her pottery-filled table I was instantly drawn into her work, her overall aesthetic and her warm, welcoming personality. Today I’d love to introduce you to my friend, Lauren of Lauren HB Ceramics Studio.

The cool thing about Lauren is that she not only sells the most exquisite ceramics pieces she also allows totally strangers to come to her studio and get down and dirty with clay while she guides you through a series of actions so you too can walk away a proud ceramicist.

During the summer our entire design studio spent an afternoon learning from Lauren on how to do a bit of hand building with clay. Our group made small bowls, soap vessels, ring dishes and someone (who shall remain nameless…my mom) even made a ceramic elephant? (I guess I get my creativity from her?) (Love you Mom!)

We took a prosecco break while Lauren walked us through her process for creating her work and her most recent line…for WEST ELM (OMG, CONGRATS LAUREN!!! more on that in a bit) This artist is a force to be reckoned with for sure. Her work ships all across the country, her classes fill up fast and I’m telling you she is a wonderful person to learn from and hang out with. Now…onto that West Elm excitement….Lauren’s work is part of a collection of Ohio Makers as part of the West Elm local initiative. She was chosen from many applicants and has created a special line just for their store. To see her exquisite collection, road trip down to the store at Easton (Columbus) it’s worth the drive, you are in for a treat.

IMG_2981Unable to make it to Columbus not to worry, Lauren is hosting an open studio and sale on Saturday, November 7th. Her studio is located in Lakewood in the Screw Factory Building so try and swing by to meet the artist herself and pick up a few early holidays gifts.

Lauren has also been so kind and generous to offer one lucky iheartCLE reader a free opportunity to visit her studio for a FREE drop-in session to learn the basics of hand building pottery from her. To enter to win this amazing gift tweet me “@iheartclev I’d love to learn some pottery basics from the talented #LaurenHB”  Winner to be drawn Friday, October 30th…Good luck!

Thanks Lauren for the kind giveaway. Congrats again on your collaboration with West Elm and we look forward to seeing you at your studio open house! Happy weekend to you. Cheers!

  1-tank trip : Columbus

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take a Saturday, 1-tank trip to Columbus. The skies were bright blue and while 71S was swarming with police cars we managed to make it there in just over two hours with no stops.

We arrived to a quiet Columbus starting our morning with breakfast at North Star Cafe on High Street. Not only was the breakfast yummy, the unlimited magazines and people watching was even better. After breakfast we headed to the new Rothko exhibit at the Columbus Museum of Art. It was awesome, a three room intensive on the life of the artist and how his works once more figurative morphed into intense color studies. Also along with the Rothko exhibit there is this fascinating exhibit of Czech puppets on display in the other galleries, almost as cool as Rothko, but also sorta creepy. You have to check it out!
