The other morning I had the privilege of shopping and touring the market along side two of my favorite people; Michelle V. author of Cleveland Foodie and Ruthann K. founder and chef of Gatherings Kitchen. We had decided to meet up early in the morning to do a bit of weekly shopping, to be inspired by the fall harvest seasonal foods and to be schooled by Chef Ruth on a few tips of the cooking trade.
I LOVE my market tote by the team at Fizz Creative! To get yours visit their Etsy site here! (Makes the perfect gift for the foodie in your family)
8 am on a Monday morning…it seriously was the perfect time to be visiting the market. The vendors were turning on their lights, the butchers filling their stands with only the freshest, the veggies and fruits being stacked and organized in an abstract art kinda way…it was a beautiful morning to be exploring the market together.
Michelle was shopping for a fun “foodie recipe” while I was doing a more impromptu, casual (easy!) Monday night-after work-kinda meal shopping. My haul included lots of cheese, fresh figs (last of the season) Ohio City Pasta, fall apples, some fresh bread and for dessert sweet Campbell’s popcorn!
Getting tips from an awesome vendor on how to prep celery root for various recipes.
Getting schooled on fall apple varieties.
Michelle scoring some fresh herbs for her foodie recipe.
Michelle giving Ruth and I a Market history lesson over early morning coffee. Did you know the market stands are organized in a letter and number grid pattern? Next time you visit look up at each booth to identify their address.
Next time you are looking for a fun adventure in your own town, grab a group of foodie friends and explore the West Side Market together. Big thanks to our friend Regina Strauss Photography for capturing our fun morning at the Market…thanks for the yummy images Reg.
