  1-tank trip : Columbus

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take a Saturday, 1-tank trip to Columbus. The skies were bright blue and while 71S was swarming with police cars we managed to make it there in just over two hours with no stops.

We arrived to a quiet Columbus starting our morning with breakfast at North Star Cafe on High Street. Not only was the breakfast yummy, the unlimited magazines and people watching was even better. After breakfast we headed to the new Rothko exhibit at the Columbus Museum of Art. It was awesome, a three room intensive on the life of the artist and how his works once more figurative morphed into intense color studies. Also along with the Rothko exhibit there is this fascinating exhibit of Czech puppets on display in the other galleries, almost as cool as Rothko, but also sorta creepy. You have to check it out!   An Arts Weekend!

WOW, where did all this snow come from? Don’t get me wrong, I love it, but from what I heard the roads were a real bummer for some of our commuters.

Anyhow, back to business…it’s and ART weekend in CLEVELAND and I couldn’t be more jazzed to get out and explore.

First up is tonight’s opening of the new Transformer Station located in Ohio City (next to the Cleveland Vibrator Company…tee hee.) The Transformer Station is a project presented by the Bidwell Foundation in association with the Cleveland Museum of Art bringing contemporary art from around the world to the west side of Cleveland.

  4th Coast Pop Up Market

I can’t say I know much about this event, but if my friend Brian of Grey Cardigan is participating then I think this Pop Up market presented by Survival Kit Gallery should be pretty cool.

The 4th Coast Pop Up Market is a collective of local designers and artists and  features many limited editions and one of a kind pieces. The market/evening will also include vintage clothing, records and other unique items.

If you weren’t able to attend the flurry of holiday shows, then this January event is something you don’t want to miss. The event is Friday the 21st from 5-11pm and Saturday the 22nd from 12-6pm.

Survival Kit Gallery is in the 78th Street Studios at 1305 West 80th Street, Suite 3C

  ArtMart (04/09)

Friday, April 9th, 2010

I haven’t actually been to this Spaces Gallery event, but I’ve heard about it for many many years, and this time…it’s time to check it out!

This is how Spaces is promoting the party, and I couldn’t have put it any better…I love their writer, whomever it is?

“Looking to add to your art collection without breaking the bank? How about fulfilling your undying urge to accessorize? Or maybe you just want to party whilst being surrounded by beautiful things. Aside from attending one of the coolest annual parties in town, you can take home fresh art on the spot while supporting your favorite artist and art space. Profits from this event benefit the participating artists and SPACES. Can you think of a better way to support a cause while having fun shopping?”

“Over one hundred regional artists (all members supporting SPACES’ mission) will exhibit and sell paintings, photography, drawings, prints, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, handbags, textiles, videos, and much more. Meet and mingle with over 500 of your closest friends on opening night as you enjoy art for all different tastes, music, and food from your favorite neighborhood restaurants.”

Hope to see everyone there!!! Admission is $5 for guests at the door, Free for members.

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Celebrate Spring. Celebrate Love. Celebrate Engagements, Showers and Weddings.

This Friday, celebrate the unveiling of the new Grey Cardigan “Something Borrowed, Something Grey” print collection by artist Brian Jasinski. His work is refreshing, youthful and sassy with a sense of humor twist.

Anyone getting married in your life? These pieces would make a delightful gift for any of the many wedding infused occasions. No standard Bed Bath & Beyond Prints for the newlyweds pad…only the best will do. :)

See you there!
